Katy perry : what went wrong ?

Featured Replies

I genuinely believe the hype was there, and with the imagery and right sound, someone would have been here for this era. She shot herself in the foot by working with Luke, because the stan world is the main people she alienated, and that would've been her main audience. People were willing to give her another chance and she squandered it

Woman's World. This mash-up sounds way more energetic than the original :deadbanana2:

From the marketing side, it's pretty clear they know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Katy's audience and that's why they've been failing time after time.

WW is simply a bad song and she fumbled the hype :cm:

And the Dr Luke stuff definitely turned off a lot of stan twitter people

No one is here for a women's empowerment single rn (conservatives for obvious reasons, but liberals also bc it is coming from Katy working w a r*pist). Also she needs to stop trying to be funny in her marketing and vids. No one is laughing w her (or at her for that matter by this pt). It's just tired. During Teenage Dream era it was campy, but it got old. She needs to grow up and stop cracking jokes

i am here for women empowerment singles, this song is not a women empowerment song... It just feels like words put together by AI or a man using cookie cutter words attempting to understand women. The song has no soul and no substance.

I was talking to someone about this the other day, and we were discussing the turmoil and backlash with working with Dr Luke. I stated that outside of twitter stans and maybe the occasional tik tok, no one cares or even KNOWS about the situation. They countered with saying that the problem is that most of Katy's base ARE chronically online, and they do care. Partner that with a generic song about women empowerment, a video that is all over the place and the backlash, this is the result. It does NOT seem like she is going to be speaking about or addressing this, either. Probably because Dr Luke is involved with the majority of the album, there would be no way to course correct, other than scrapping the entire thing, which is not going to happen. So, we are left in this limbo, and it feels awkward. I think if she releases another single, that's better received, it will help but the era overall is going to be overshadowed with this drama. Speaking about sales, I think the album will do better than Smile, but overall, the era will be stained with this backlash.

Why are we asking what went wrong as if this is surprising, she has not been flopping for years and this is simply a continuation of that? :rip:

If anything, the bigger surprise would have been her actually smashing.

The gp was so excited for a katy perry comeback before she started teasing her comeback single and the rumours that got later confirmed about her working again with dr puke , what went wrong ? And for you what she should do to save what left of her career? Thoughts

To me, Katy Perry's problem is the lack of evolution. Although 'Witness' presented a somewhat more mature project, sound-wise it was just like what you'd expect from her anyways.

she's like Pink but Pink can sing and radios love her voice (but even them rejected her lately with always the same recycled music since 2008) and has a reputation with the gp for being an amazing performer with shows you don't have to miss as for Beyoncè and Taylor so she can make huge legacy tours. Katy...well doesn't have this reputation.

The GP likes the IDEA of Katy Perry, the memories her old hits bring them, but they are NOT interested in new material from her in 2024.

Of course the problem with her comeback was the Dr. Luke situation and the awful song/video she chose to release, but I think the problem really started after Dark Horse. The following singles from Prism underperformed. I really think she would've been able to keep her momentum and have two more top 10 hits if she had chosen Legendary Lovers and then Walking on Air as the two last singles. After that, Rise shouldn't have existed and Never Really Over should've kicked things off for her 4th album (a mixture of the good songs from Witness and Smile) in 2017. I think things would've turned out VERY differently like this.

I understand her wanting to replicate the formula that brought her success in the first place, but considering the circumstances that was always going to be a very slippery terrain for her. She had to be certain it would really, really be worth it. It was an all-or-nothing type of gamble, and she won nothing because Woman's World is a terrible song at its core. At least now this chapter is done with for sure.

She and her team being dumb af ruined this era obviously.

The only way to make this era something eventful was catering the audience who lives in internet... just look at Apple becoming a viral hit. She only needed a cute dance song that can spark a wake of "the mother is back" tiktoks. They could've caught the attention of the GP (btw The GP doesn't care about her. Teenagers in Europe using her speed up songs =/ the gp's interest)

By working with Dr. Luke she lost those audience too.

Whatever Katy is doing has been done several times and is tiring. People want from Katy carefree, perfectly crafted pop songs like she did early on her career (if you don't believe look at the daily streams from her biggest hits) Firework & Roar worked because their message is more general and anyone can relate.

At the end she can release the type of music she wants but the gp may not be on board :michael:

woman's world is 5 days old omg keep calm

Im pretty confident she thought everyone will think she "ate" because she *made* Dr Luke create a "feminist" anthem, but it absolutely backfired.

also, releasing one of the worst pop songs leads in recent memory.

I think the Dr. Luke think ruined any chance before she got started.   Really dumb decision.

The GP does not give a flying **** about that as long as the song is good.

And it isn't.

:clack:

I just saw the video for her new single and it reads tone deaf, basic, the music is trash, and the video is a feminist empowerment anthem if it were directed by Michael Bay.

She's been over for a decade.

She's never coming back.

Paid-for twitter likes really had these dummies fooled.

Yet it sounds like it's from 2020...
