I think the Dr. Luke think ruined any chance before she got started.   Really dumb decision.

Mid lead single, tragic video, awfull lyrics, PR nightmare of gargantuan proportions that is enhanced by the ill-conveyed meaning of song and video. The perfect (sh-t)-storm. 

To me, Katy Perry's problem is the lack of evolution. Although 'Witness' presented a somewhat more mature project, sound-wise it was just like what you'd expect from her anyways.

For some i can understand for example ari's yes and ? Was a great choice since it was the only single before the album release and it made since since it's the only different song in terms of sound and looking at the context too it was a smart move but for others like gaga releasing stupid love when she has so many bops on the album was a bad move

the gp doesn't care or even know who dr luke is. It's u gays on pop forums and twitter that are a very loud very tiny minority. Even if it's shown on E! That means nothing cause who even watches shows like that? This isn't the 2000s.

The GP was not excited for a Katy Perry comeback lol. It's been years since the GP has cared about Katy. You guys have let stan twitter make you think the GP loves all these pop girls when they just don't care, and the lack of success shows just that. All Katy had was her small fanbase and the possible support of the online girls and gays; she squandered that possibility when she chose to work with someone most of the people in those two groups hate. She then had to rely on her fanbase, which we're now seeing consists of about 1,000,000 people globally (probably less, I'm going off Spotify numbers so many of those streams are probably a group of people streaming over and over).

The GP hasn't been here for Katy since Prism and the pop fans that still pay attention to her pay attention to things like who the producers are and what the songs sound like in comparison to other songs. Immediately the Stupid Love comparisons were made which was not a good sign because Stupid Love wasn't even received well when it was released. On top of that, the Dr. Luke association really doesn't help. The song is a fun listen but pretty sterile and expected for her, she really fumbled by not coming out with something different and much stronger visually.

No one in the GP cared for her comeback which is evident by the first-day streaming numbers. She gets many likes on Twitter posts about her old songs because those are timeless hits that people love. That quality just isn't there in the new single

Both the song and video reek of outdated corny millenial humor and she can't sell the superficial Hillary Clinton brand of 2016 feminism in this climate. Her team is basically out of touch

At this point, there's more "what went wrong?" threads for Katy and this era than there are TTPD variants

 

Honestly, I think Katy's time has passed. Her brand as the silly campy pop girl wasn't going to age well as she got older and the outdated music isn't helping. An image and sound rebrand was definitely needed.

Not every artist he worked with was KATY PERRY an artist that used to run the charts and have hits back to back so it wasn't expected from them to have huge hits , what's not clicking ?

No one is here for a women's empowerment single rn (conservatives for obvious reasons, but liberals also bc it is coming from Katy working w a r*pist). Also she needs to stop trying to be funny in her marketing and vids. No one is laughing w her (or at her for that matter by this pt). It's just tired. During Teenage Dream era it was campy, but it got old. She needs to grow up and stop cracking jokes

We are analysing maybe she will see these threads and learn something that will benefit her in the future 

If she wanted a hit that resonates with the GP she would have to release a good song that clicks with her (very small) fanbase first. The only way her """comeback""" era could gain some traction is good word of mouth because she's quasi-irrelevant to the GP in 2024. But if you keep disappointing the few people left in your fanbase that still check for you, how the hell are you supposed to get the GP on your side?
