It's giving Kelly Clarkson 'Because of You' but make it ~aesthetic~

Heard the leak. It's cute but doesn't feel like obvious lead single material, although 'New Americana', 'Now or Never', and 'Graveyard' weren't either. The prechorus ("When I die I won't have time to SPEND my money, but I hope @lillavend3r still loves me.") is the best part. I also appreciate some of the subtly quirky production touches like the dissonant background vocals, her cadence on the second verse, and the schoolyard chants that almost seem to mock, and the welcome nod to Godnica's 'Angel of Mine' of course.

 

The 'Lucky' chorus interpolation feels sorta unnecessary, but adds an interesting contrast to the raw and personal verses almost in a meta kind of way. Still doesn't work as a whole for me and don't see this smashing hard or anything, but maybe a 'Graveyard' or 'Be Kind' type of success at best which would be nice following So Mid and I am not panned, I'm acclaimed. 7/10 

 

Her Twitter Q&A has me more excited for the rest of the album and I still believe the multi-character / 4 decades theory.

It is a gorgeous song but it is very personal and lacks mass appeal so I don't think it is a great lead but I understand why she chose it b/c it really tells her story over the past few years.

 

This is not even gonna bubble under but i LOVE IT - it is so beautiful and it kind of reminds me of Joanna by jojo thematically.  If this is what arts not charts is then I think she's on a good trajectory.

such a lazy effort.. and I really don't like how she changed the chorus melody  well

Trusting the vision but I'm a bit confused on the decision to sample an entire chorus for a lead single. "The End" was amazing, hopefully we get some more like that. 

I will be shocked if this becomes a hit, but I don't think it's impossible… I mean she's on Columbia which is already a plus. But yeah I think it will depend how the GO reacts to it. I think she's gone viral a few times for the promo so far.

 

If Britney says something about it (good or bad) then it could be another big viral moment lol.

I don't think I'm going to enjoy this album. These songs aren't doing it for me. They aren't bad but they aren't exciting either and I don't find myself wanting to replay them.

I don't like it... It's hard to say it as a fan but it's not it. If I wanted to listen to Lucky by Brit I would just play it. The use was so bored and tired. Very dissapointed as I liked the aesthetics and instrumental is cute. I liked The End more, actually.
