Who is the Next MPG?

Featured Replies

Who do you think will be the next pop girl to dominate the music industry and reach MPG status? By MPG standards, I mean that they will go on to sell out tours, have #1s on the BB Hot 100 and push album units upwards of 300k in their opening week.

Some contenders:
Sabrina Carpenter

Normani

Madison Beer

Tate McRae

Chappell Roan

Reneé Rapp

Obviously not going to be Normani but I included recent pop girls I could think of :coffee2:

so what category is Madison Beer exactly

I'm rooting for Chappell for sure.

I can definitely see it for Sabrina if she plays her cards right.

Realistically Tate or Sabrina have the best chances here. Not that awards matter much but I think that will show who has been accepted this year, come time of the VMAs or Grammys.

I'm rooting for Chappell too though and think she could be the new critical darling if she can get a top 10 and start selling more.

Definitely Sabrina. She's pretty, she's blonde, she sing basic bops. According to atrl, that's all you need to succeed.

I think the only real contender there is Sabrina.

I just don't see it for Tate.  Chappell is having a moment right now but I think it might be more like a Lizzo situation where she does well for a period of time but never quite reaches MPG status.

Oh tee: Sabrina maybe out of that list but honestly someone new

I looked up Chapell Roan's music because of this thread, and I can't see her becoming a commercial force at all. She just seems like the typical 'indie' pop artist. :giraffe:

Her latest single is climbing up the charts (currently #43 on BB Hot 100) and her album is outperforming alleged MPG Dua Lipa's album which was released just weeks ago. :coffee2:

i'm afraid to say none of them will reach mpg status

None of them.

I mean Tate and Sabrina. But i dont think any will open with 300k units as OP thinks. Tates Think Later with huge hit greedy did like 68k which is great. If anyone us expecting Sabrina to do 300k w her next album they are delusional lol

Dua is a MPG and she doesn't have a #1 or debuted eith300k. Your reqs for mpg status is flawed

None of them really came onto the scene explosively, to where they're recognizable or have any impact on anything. They don't have a "Crazy in Love," "Just Dance," "I Kissed a Girl" or even a "Pon de Replay." The potential is there for Normani, but that means nothing without effort and drive.

I don't think it will be any of these—unless the bar is lowered, honestly, compared to what the MPGs of the past had to reach for, as it relates to musical achievements, talent, etc.

The 300k opening week is a huge set up. None of these girls are having a Billie/Olivia breakthrough yet

:kitty:  I could see Sabrina if she has another big hit with this album.  She has the biggest hit of the year already and has lots of attention on her including all those millions of Swifties supporting her.  We will know within the next couple of months.

Yeah but what made both of Billie and Olivia projects bring those numbers were the pre-orders for pure sales and the 60M+ opening day with three songs bringing big numbers simultaneously and album tracks doing great throughout the week. I don't know if Sabrina is that girl yet. With two hits smashing I can see her doing anywhere inside the 180k-250k range, which would be already a great achievement and waaay above what her previous did. More Ariana-like level and above Miley and Dua, because she has Gen Z around her finger and a growing fanbase according to fans. Swifties go hard with pure sales for Taylor only

Maybe X-Tina ? Her manager says that she hasn't peaked yet. They must have something big in store
