I think it's smart. It's the single that's going to be out when the album drops, so having that big final promo push for the release of the album makes sense to me. 

I can't get enough of the teaser and the visual looks amazing  It screams song of the summer

judging the music video teaser, this will probably be a massive improvement over Houdini and Training Season. this might really help the song smash.

Yeah in all honesty I agree… we should have had a promo single in place instead and moved TS to something post album…

Tbh I think her success from last era made them a bit too complacent with the rollout this time around.

 

I think they thought they could put less effort into the first few singles as they'd be carried by hype and then push this as the big single in time for the album release.  

 

However now we're in this awkward situation where the first two singles have underperformed and halted her momentum. I hope she can bring it back with this single but I fear the damage may already be done.

 

If it's as good as everyone says it is, they better be ready to promote and playlist the hell out of it to make it a smash.

Ngl, I don't get this sentiment at all. To me it feels like this rollout was always supposed to be more careless and chill, to convey a sense of "coolness" and nonchalance. It's very in line with what Dua has said about this era in that Rolling Stone interview for example, how it's kind of supposed to be the exact opposite of FN.

 

FN = maximalism

RO = minimalism

like, this era is very consistent in that aspect

Tend to agree. Through happenstance (ie Gaza) and cock up ( imho the lack

or performances/ bad release timing etc), the rollout has not been great, especially when compared to FN. 

 

I wonder too, how much management (not just solely her dad here) bandwidth has been taken up by her buying her music publishing and masters etc out from TAP/other stakeholders, and getting them housed in a "bespoke deal" with Warner. I have no doubt that would've involved a lot of meetings with lawyers and accountants and a lot of toing and froing. These things can be hugely time and emotion consuming, and leave limited space for other stuff.

 

All that said, the visuals we've got from the video and the general positive vibe around Illusion online, do feel a bit more upbeat than recent months ( though Houdini keeps chugging along like a musical diesel engine, all low revs but goes forever), so fingers crossed.

 

Do we know if this is a "real" single going to radio etc or a promo buzz thing?
