Do you know any cases when an artist released a set of successful singles, but then released a song that fans were outraged against, and it failed? It can affect your entire career.

 

I'll start.

 

The Texas band became very popular in the late 90s. They had a series of very successful sold out tours all over Europe. After the release of two studio albums, they released a compilation of the greatest hits, which went down in UK history as the most successful among female groups. 

 

A year later, Texas returns and releases the song "Carnival Girl". Fans have written a lot of angry letters against this terrible single. With this single, the rock singer sold her body to pop music, and also invited the rapper to sing along. 

 

There were at least 6 contenders for a single on the new album, but not a single track was released. Fans refused to buy the new album, so its sales amounted to 0.1 million copies (2003) against 2.5 million of the previous album (2000).

 

Texas tried to arrange a free tour of the UK to save their reputation, but their careers ended.

Imagine thinking releasing a song with 'blah blah blah blah' as the bridge was a good idea  Everyone who greenlit its release should've been fired

Bois Lie and to a lesser degree Love it When You Hate Me. I think other songs on Love Sux could have at least given her some more footing on alt radio (Avalanche for example.)

 

Avril has a couple actually. Losing Grip is amazing, I love that song so much but to pick it over other tracks from Let Go  Pushing The Best Damn Thing (song) as the final single from that era  and then of course all the self-titled singles (which I adore sans HK but shouldn't have been picked anyway)

 

Most of the time I can understand an artist or their team's reasoning behind certain singles (even if I don't like them) but other instances it's truly bewildering what gets pushed and what doesn't.

This was such a misstep. Great song but not the second single. It should always have been All Hands On Deck

Delicate, but it ended up as Rep's 2nd biggest song.

Me!, Stupid Song, Give Me All Your Luvin'

Adore You, a great song, but had no business being the 3rd single for Bangerz. 

“Sweetest Pie”….oh wait, y’all did ask for that.
