i feel like it exceeded expectations tbh did anyone expect Troye to have a hit? i think the song/video going so viral on gay social media upon release was the most buzz he's gotten for his music ever, and it's gained him new fans regardless of its chart performance. i mean look at Padam Padam, barely made a dent in US charts but it's been ubiquitous this summer

Is Troye supposed to do as well as the....Old Town Road singer? Montero was teased on TikTok for months and the sound was viral already. Lil Nas is x100 bigger than him. The satanic imagery/controversy also helped him, etc. I don't think its a fair comparison at all. Troye literally barely gets an entry on the Hot 100. This song is doing so well for his solo efforts. Its just people (trolls?) had crazy expectations for some reason.

nothing, Troye was never a MPB, the song is doing great for his standards 

I kinda liked the song from first listen, but it got really old after like 4 plays. Literally no replay value beyond the initial fun factor 

Troye is more of an alt-pop star isn't he? Obviously the song isn't going to be a worldwide number-one hit

I would say everything went right considering its the biggest song hes had in a while.  How many songs does Troye have on the Hot 100 charting above 50? The issue really was not sending this to radio or whatever reason they didn't play it.

If this was a MPG or MPB serving these numbers you all would call it a big fat flop, but now it’s “cute numbers”, “it’s not meant for the charts” etc.
