I never understood the Katy/Paula thing when Katy was and is 10 times more massive 

This site needs to stop disrespecting Katy, this comparison is stale.

 

No matter how many times she is labelled 'over', she is still a household name and unless you're talking about Rihanna, she's got more remembered classics than any of her peers you call your faves.

 

Meanwhile Paula Abdul's legacy is American Idol.

Exactly and it's not even CLOSE. Also, Katy's music has aged way better and is still massively consumed to this day. Paula's streams are TRAGIC

Yeah, it's always used to put Katy down. And those same people will tell you how much of an amazing career Cyndi Lauper had but Katy is "just" another Paula Abdul 

Both had more longevity than gaga 

Katy's last hit and #1 album was 9 years into her career, Paula's career was already dead and gone by that time

well i gotta say i'm surprised by Paula Abdul strike of #1 hits, i just googled it. I've always thought she's had like 2 or 3 big hits since she was a judge on the xfactor years past her prime (so she couldn't be unknown) but it was still more than i expected. Anyway, the answer is Katy. 

I know only one Paula Abdul song so I guess I will hand this one over to the Republican Chanteuse

Rush Rush is bigger than anything Katy released, THAT’S a FACT.

I prefer Paula and her 6 consecutive #1 singles, but Katy definitely lasted longer than her (and also released more music).

Not internationally, but in Paula's defense, Virgin didn't even release her music officially outside the Anglosphere.
