Should Spotify hide streaming figures?

Featured Replies

I think that not sharing the streaming totals could mean less pressure for artists. On the other hand, it can be inspiring for artists to see how popular their music is but in this current trend of music consumption, focusing solely on the numbers could take away some of the artistic integrity. What do you think?

don't think it would make a difference, and it would give artists less bargaining power to fight for royalties and payouts bc they wouldn't know how their music is performing.

which would make it about the music again and taking away the immense pressure from artists? It might make it less fun for fanatic pop fans like all of us but wouldn’t that be healthier for the artist?

charts like the billboard hot 100 etc would still exist. just the publication of numbers isn’t available, just like the situation on apple music

Yes so Swiftie discourse will become pretty much silent on this app and they’ll have nothing left to talk about

In fact while were at it kill the Billboard Hot 100 as well so they’ll really go mentally crazy

But not every artist is about charting on the Hot 100. Plus removing the Spotify numbers wouldn't solve anything in the way of removing pressure from artists, labels do that anyways and that's a thing that's always been around, even before the iTunes era.

Hiding would only be the public, labels and thus artists would have access to that information

This makes no sense. The artist will always know how much they're being streamed.

thats the point. the artist and label can know that data but it wont be revealed to the public to make it more about the music again and take away pressure from other artists

What yall gonna talk about? Eras Tour outfits? :bibliahh:

No. I don't care about fanwars, but I like seeing some of my faves doing good numbers on streaming or one of their songs having a resurgence.

this.

bad idea.

It can still be about the music with the number of streams being shown. Only YOU have the power to change that mindset. Just listen to what you like. I don’t listen to an artist or band because they’re successful, I listen to them because I love / connect with their music. If they happen to also become popular, that’s just a bonus.

Even though I always pick music first (as I’m sure most people here do) it’s still nice being able to see / share your faves accolades. :bird:

Some serious grass needs to be touched

OT: No cuz it helps seperate facts from opinions about artists' popularity

Yes and Youtube views as well, stans should stop caring about numbers and focus on the music instead

Well.. I can imagine why some would want that(including the OP)
