When I published the first CSPC articles, I personally and manually collected all the data, including the streaming statistics. In 2020 (for artists) and 2021 (for albums) we made huge steps forward. We integrated our streaming tools with CSPC articles, enabling streaming data to be updated automatically every day.

From now on, we will also get automatically updated pure sales figures thanks to new algorithms.

    How do we do that?

    Introducing sales trends

The majority of sales nowadays are either new albums which sell most of their units in a few weeks only, or classic albums enjoying steady recurrent sales.

To deal with the latter, CSPC estimates will now also include figures for recurrent yearly sales in the background. For convenience purpose, we will call them sales trends. The data printed on screen will be the last known figure plus the recurrent sales over the number of days passed since that last known figure, rather than our estimate which is frozen in time.

With streaming getting a bigger and bigger share of artist’s units, being as close as it gets from their exact numbers is key.

For this reason, we audit results from various platforms covering different markets. We’re auditing Spotify, QQ (China), Genie (South Korea), AWA (Japan), Anghami (MENA), as well as African platforms Boomplay and Audiomack.

Relevant streaming actors like Apple Music, Amazon Music or Deezer do not publish their numbers though. To deal with that, we extrapolate numbers from Spotify based on the global market shares.

One problem remained unsolved up to now. It was the fact that not all artists and genre perform equally well in distinct platforms, like Spotify and Apple Music for example. We now have a solution.

More details (esp on the global streaming analysis) in their article:

I'm super curious about how this will affect artists who do significantly better on streaming platforms outside of Spotify.

so where are they getting the pure sales again?

that's so vague what they just gave

They’re going to use an algorithm to try to determine sales over time and it will show that number outside of the actual estimates per album.

Based on what you regularly tell us, we are already thinking about introducing a subscription

.

Looks like Taylor & Drake are getting a boost from their streaming data refinements. Taylor already went quite a few places up it seems

oh no :bibliahh:

Please free this forum from the shackles of this blog :rip:

EDIT: I just read the entire update and LOL. They themselves are admitting they have incomplete data and use guesstimations to make up for it. These changes are just elaborate ways to guesstimate better. He’s shaming “inflated” label numbers yet is playing with incomplete data while touting about accuracy. What a joke :deadbanana2:

So they basically admitting to add streaming stats based on no real figures but just who seems more popular where and some certs or whatever

:rip:

the way streaming acts will get a big boost :ahh:

The way this site worships Chartmaster like it's their ultimate saviour :rip:

Or artists who are the opposite and currently have their streaming units inflated (Dua Lipa)

I'm more curious as how they would get that info if no service asides of Spotify publishes the number of streams to the general public.
Are they just gonna make an estimate? That site is a constant fraud tbh :bird:

I just read that too :deadbanana2:

And yet the delusional defenders will be in here doing mental gymnastics to justify the guesstimations.

I guess Dua Lipa streaming numbers will stop being inflated by her only being a presence on Youtube and Spotify.

no wonder they have obvious favorites especially to the chart obsessed fanbase that regularly visit their website and they do this for clicks

That's not what they said at all :rip:  Reading is essential.

What they used to do is give a flat multiplier for Spotify streams to get overall streams. This multiplier was based on the global market share Spotify has. So if Spotify had 80% of WW audio streaming market, they would multiply everyone's Spotify numbers by 1.25 to get overall streams across all platforms. The issue with this (an issue several people on this site have stated before when people uphold Spotify numbers as the bible for a song's success) is Spotify's true market share varries when it comes to both markets and genres. An R&B or Rap artist like Lil Baby should have a FARRRR larger Spotify multiplier than a pop artist like Dua Lipa, based on both the fact that Urban music streams better on other platforms like Apple Music and the US (Lil Baby's main market) is way less Spotify dominant than Dua Lipa's main market of Europe.

CM revealed some updated multipliers for some artists:
Drake - 1.95477 (same logic for Lil Baby applies here)
Taylor - 1.71566
Ed Sheeran - 1.54582
Bad Bunny - 1.31442 (Spotify has a massive near 80% market share in Latin America so he is not missing as much streams)
