Was Flowers payola-fueled?

Featured Replies

This is a serious question. Prior to Flowers Miley didn't have a true big hit/era since Bangerz, which was way back in 2013.

Then Flowers comes out and it suddenly becomes this big hit out of nowhere. And now that the album is out and isn't doing very good numbers, i genuinely wonder it there wasn't some payola that helped push Flowers become a hit in the first place. Maybe i'm wrong but that's what it feels like in retrospect.

What do you guys think? Was there payola? Or was it somehow organic despite the lack of interest in the overall album?

No, the song went viral and became a hit. It’s that simple.

Many albums have had huge hit leads and underwhelming first week sales in comparison. It’s not the first time it’s happened and it won’t be the last.

Most hits released today from artists of big labels using multiple way of payola, but this doesn’t mean the songs are not hits, and this is the reason why artists always want to sign with big labels

Should I start blocking every user who makes this thread (yet again) ? It's getting insane

Those extremely high Spotify peaks were reached with the help of autoplay (payola) but it did smash everywhere so no. It was just a viral hit due to how quick those made-up rumours spread across TikTok and social media in general which generated a lot of interest in the song.

This thread has been made at least 10 times in the last couple months. Give it up already :gaycat7:

still no. it wasn’t ~oUt of no wHeRe~ either because it had a modest debut but then was visibly very viral on tiktok and twitter when it started to surge.

No.

I mean It got the playlits and Savage autoplay buy you don't make 17m Daily only for that.

It's not the first time someone has a big hit and than moderate success with the album.

This. Plus random people that aren't involved in stan world talked to me about the song. The song was also posted in many meme instagram pages, it truly went viral, the lyrics are relatable and the beat is good, in addition the drama with her ex and the word play with Bruno's song helped pushed it further

Miley got a hit that sticks like grits

Still #1 on Spotify WW 2 months into its release

Surely payola would've ran out by now or gp would've been exhausted with the song if they didn't like it

Then Columbia will file bankruptcy this year cuz they’ve been payola’d the song for 2 months in all streaming services…

No... I saw a lot of people talking about Flowers during release week

the nerve of you to say this :ahh:

OT: The song was an instant viral sensation and became a global smash.

So her label did payola on Spotify, AM, Youtube, radio AND digital sales? Yea, no :ahh:

This. The song was an absolute smash. It was everywhere on social media. Autoplay might have helped but it was not the reason why the song smashed

No, the song was everywhere, and I would say the best metric to notice that is that everyone used the song on insta stories. It just went viral on TikTok and there were a lot of fake rumours around the song that made it masive.

I really wonder if people really believe such things.

It was a success for sure but the numbers were a little too much… maybe bc of that autoplay thing

The song was everywhere. Even my mum knew it and loved it and I don’t think she could name a single song from Plastic Hearts. :gaycat6:

for the 100th time it was a viral tik tok hit

you grandmas can’t get get that through your heads for some reason
