I know this forum is foaming at the mouth whenever Beyonce is celebrated in the media, but it doesn't come out of thin air just because. She's easily the most accomplished of the last generations of artists and quite frankly the last true superstar. She's been in the game for more than 20 years now, has seen great commercial success both as the face of Destiny's Child and as a solo artist, has showcased great vocal and performing abilities and overall showmanship throughout the years, has iconic pop culture moments and has received incredible acclaim from music critics and the industry.

 

Her media reverence is simply a reflection of that. Whether you like her and her music or not is another story, but you can't deny these facts. So I'm not sure what the 'smoke and mirrors' are in the context of Beyonce.

 

Taylor swift does not have her longevity (at least yet), vocal prowess and showmanship, nor the acclaim and iconic moments.

Britney Spears does not have the longevity, the vocal skills and the acclaim.

Rihanna does not have the longevity, vocals, showmanship and acclaim.

Adele does not have the longevity, showmanship, acclaim and iconic moments.

Lady ga ga has... really nothing on Beyonce, and I'm not even gonna go into the likes of kay perry, kesha, christina etc. 

 

Sure, there's girls who have sold more albums OR singles than her, but none of them are anywhere as accomplished for that difference in sales to really make a difference. She sits with the greats of the old now and that's really where you can come compare. Everybody else is very much beneath her.

From the person who spent years lying about them, removing millions from her total and inflating Christina's stats...  She's been slayed for 25 years and isn't going anywhere. It's time to get a grip and move on.

I don’t know about a king but she’s up there with MJ and them. 

being 'overhyped by the media' doesn't get you 25+ years of continued success (including a solo multi-week #1), the most Grammys of any living artist, and consistent praise from up and coming artists/industry vets simultaneously.

She is rightfully getting dragged on twitter for pre-recording vocals and lipping them. So I would agree with the smoke and mirrors sentiment.
