Kpop blew up and a lot of people got into Kpop during the pandemic (including myself), and the market in general grew a lot more and got more competitive.

I hope so. The Friday afternoon release was disastrous for Girls and really hurt their Korean charting. It's not a good time to release in Korea.

He was American. He gave up citizenship though. Also I thought he only moved to America at age seven.

He's not American. He was born in Korea. He lived in the U.S. and had a green card but he gave it up some time later when he was in Korea, so that he could enlist onto military service (those holding foreign citizenships/permanent residency can't enlist). 

 

He lived in Massachusetts for 7 years though, so yeah he would be advantaged when taking an English test. But it's possible to lose a lot of fluency in a foreign language if you don't use it much.

IVE are such a stannable group but one thing that I hate is how Starship almost always feeds into the Wonyoung hate train by continuously shoving her in the center. Have these businesses not learned from the nightmare that was Suzy in MissA? The lack of investment in the other girls aside from maybe Yujin and Rei is gonna hurt their brand in the long run. Those are 6 different kinds of IT girls you have Leeseo the girl who goes viral for fake crying on TikTok, Liz future center and Gaeul who is already effortlessly slaying. Imagine if Starship actually gave all of them the chance to shine and not have Wonyoung hog it all (this isn't her fault btw)

 

HYBE would've known what to do with such a starpower girlgroup, LSF despite having Sakura have managed to make her both center and make her the most irrelevant member onstage as well, the talent and marketing that takes whew

 

Speaking of LSF I think they're poised to rival BLACKPINK, NewJeans and IVE on a global stage eventually. The Garam scandal hurt their momentum but ANTIFRAGILE basically threw them to the top of the tops in terms of girlgroup rankings and if they hit it out of the park once again they'll probably be coming for NewJennies wigs, Kazuha is going to be the Lisa to Hanni's Jennie I fear

 

I can see 2023 ending with this ranking:

1. BLACKPINK (BPChella will assure they'll remain here)

2. NewJeans (NJ1 will OBLITERATE global charts I fear, YG and his misogynistic hairline better watch out)

3. Aespa (I'm PRAYING their title track actually delivers, they'll destroy the competition if it does)

4. LE SSERAFIM

5. IVE

6. BABYMONSTER (I can see them being a monster debut but I doubt they'll be anywhere in the Top 5)

 

Honestly #2-#6 could be a whole tossup maybe BABYMONSTER ends up giving us a NewJeans level debut who knows
