Even the most popular groups in the West, Blackpink and BTS can't really say they've got organic hits - or in BlackPink's case, ANY hits. It's mostly fandom driven grifting of the charts. Blackpink at least has real sway in influencer circles, but not for music. That's why they were probably one of the only Coachella headliners to headline with no American hits to speak of. Coachella wanted the buzz like every other media outlet using Kpop. And hey, Blackpink delivers buzz, just no hits. BTS delivers revenue, just no hits.

I thought New Jeans would be the one to really take it in the organic success department and they still might with their next comebacks, but the fact of the matter is right now people like Fifty Fifty's music. It might be basic to Kpop fans who stan Stray Kids and aespa, but in the real world nobody cares about them or their opinions. And the fake concern over Fifty Fifty not having lasting success is just that - fake concern from jealous fans whose own faves would give an arm and a leg for that kind of organic hit this group has. The revenue from Fifty Fifty's 'one-hit' (or is it 2? Will it be 3 by the end of the year? I don't know) will be enough to pay off their trainee debt and put food on their table. Other groups have to go on arena tours to make the kind of money an actual, genuine hit can generate for a company.

You girls are so quick to discredit women the moment a new one has some success. Both BlackPink and NewJeans average over 500k units per song released in the U.S. How is that unimpressive? :skull:

Literally zero people from the GP know any of these songs

Cupid actually has a chance at infiltrating the public zeitgeist

They’re not monster smashes, but the streaming era is literally just generic HAC “smashes” that accumulate all of their streams from drug store playlists and Autoplay payola. It’s better to be an established artist than to have your label sell out to Spotify for a streaming hit.

The way that post’s logic is flying over people’s heads and all they can post is fanbase-driven stats and units when in reality that’s beyond the point.
i know miss @New Edition is frustrated at the lack of comprehension

ask your mom to identify any of the songs you posted

I'm still absolutely enraged that they took the key change out of the English version of Cupid tho

it was too advanced for some people I guess

giphy.gif

the essays in here :toofunny2:

cupid is just a damn good really catchy song and their english isn't cringy

and you CAN actually understand what they're singing/saying unlike BTS and TWICE :deadbanana:

it blew up on tiktok because of the same reason too. not one person in the world cares about 5050 and i'm not even being a bitter blonk

their next release will def see some kind of success or something if they get things right but they are in no way, shape or form going to be the "4th gen leaders" or biggest kpop act ever. even PSY did get another BB hit after gangnam style and he's still a nobody

cupid's success is very organic though. sure it has some industry push but they're 100000000000000000x more organic than all of BTS 7 fraudulent #1s and even their other top 10 "hits" lol

5050 will get their bag either way. did they write on cupid?

lol right I have nothing against 5050 and even myself is a victim of the song. I just bop to it from start to end whenever I hear it. its THAT good

but everytime a new girl group comes or sees success the first thing the people in this thread do is discredit BLACKPINK :lmao:

BLACKPINK is doing just fine even without hits in the West because they're not even trying for it

they have WW hits though so :foxaylove:

I'm definitely not the target demographic for Kids Next Door

I'm just gonna let them do their thing and ignore them

And about that Cupid group, it's really not that deep, their song is viral and people are cashing in on the hype, that's it

it would’ve already gone #1 worldwide had they left that in

tbh they need that final OOMPH in the twin version - the Korean one is superior I fear

even the rap slays in a camp way

Who’s the ghost singer/demo singer that sings the Oooo ooo lalalala part?

I used to think it’s Sophia Brennan based on this demo, but it’s a little different from the final version no?

i think it’s Yujin leading along with other IVE girlies in the background tbh, she has done it in several encores already

this sing is a 10/10 but HYBE should've saved it for a group that didn't have 3 members aged 15-17 at the time

thank you.

their only attempt for a western hit was Ice Cream and its still pretty a successful song
