Can Miley Cyrus rebound?

Featured Replies

I don't think she wants to. Otherwise, she would already hire the best team and producers out there.

It’s going to be very difficult for Miley to rebound. She’s had 2-3 flop eras in a row and she’s turning 30 soon.

umm she's got nothing to rebound from, Plastic Hearts was pretty much successful and well-received

I know PH was pretty successful. But what I meant is she was literally one of the biggest pop star GLOBALLY in 2013-2014. Two global successful singles/classics, a number 1 album , a big tour, won VMA VOTY (when it was still quite relevant) and of course most talked about celebrity after her VMA moment.

I don’t think she ever has that moment again, but I hope she can return to more mainstream and got more top 5,10 hits. At least Revival-size success.

I understand that the OP is well intentioned but i don't like the insinuation that her hair is the issue. Also, I feel like she did kind of rebound already. Bangerz was huge for PR, but a lot of people didn't like the hyper sexuality and then there was the issue of cultural appropriation. Following that with Dead Petz and YN really wasn't what was needed. NBLAH, SIC and PH have been a lot more successful than those few years, she's becoming incredibly respected as a performer and although she likes a cover, they're widely more appreciated by fans and critics than say someone like Kelly Clarkson. Her live album did well for a live album too. I feel like she's in a nice place career wise.

PH was successful, it was doing good in the US until Dua ruined it.

And she stole Prisoner, making PH collapse on the BB200 :rip:

Plastic Hearts had longevity and good word of mouth. Same with Nothing Breaks Like a Heart, which is shaping up to be one of her biggest songs ever. She just peaked ten years ago. Nothing wrong with that. If she can still continue on this route with hit lead singles and a gold record to boot she will have a great 30s run.

Plastic Hearts had very good longevity on streaming especially compared to her Disney counterparts recent releases. I don't think she will see the success she saw in 2013 but I hope her next release will be a moderate success for her, which would already be impressive as she's nearing her 30s.

Not sure what happened. Looked to me like she was gonna ride the goodwill she generated with her amazing new look and career highlights Slide Away and Midnight Sky to a new career peak, but she probably abandoned Plastic Hearts era too soon. Gimme What I Want could've easily been a smash if she tacked on a big name artist and gave it a final chorus. And Nightcrawling was also right there.

well, plastic hearts did pretty good, and was big step up in both critical and commercial success over YN, so she already kinda "rebounded"

PH did great, the mistake was letting Dua put Prisoner on her album :rip:

She will definitely have another hit eventually. She has such an amazing voice, I actually feel like she is pretty underrated.

Miley already rebounded from Younger Now. Plastic Hearts has over 2 billion Spotify streams and still pulls +1,5M streams daily, that's more than the average daily numbers of albums like Chromatica, Rare and Maniac, for example. Mind you these projects had #1 Hot 100 hits supporting them.

To answer OP, european audiences seem to be more open to her music now more than ever, but I don't see Miley having another The Time Of Our Lives or Bangerz moment in the US again unfortunately. US radio hates her guts and it's much harder for a veteran artist to have a hit there without airplay these days, but that's ok.

Miley already left her mark in pop culture, what she needs to truly focus is securing her legacy and fully rebuild her brand as a talented versatile artist to music listeners. The discourse around Plastic Hearts and Attention shows she's in the right path.

She already did with Plastic Hearts, but it’s taking her quite long for a follow up

What happened with NTBLAH I never know. Truly her career best: fabulous image, great song, Hit-making producer.. but it peaked only 50 something on BBH100. It deserved at least top 10 there.

It’s sad that she might never find huge mainstream success in the US anymore. I know she peaked really high, but I kinda hope she could have at least one more huge era as Bangerz.

there's nothing to rebound from when she never really "fell off". she's more appreciated & respected than ever nowadays (thanks to the PH album & the covers she did throughout that entire era). she's an icon already.

Unpopular opinion but anyone can rebound.

I think hits wise it's hard for her, otherwise she can.

Plastic Hearts has great recurring streams and marked some sort of rebound, compared to Younger Now that was terrible.

I think she's done getting big hits but PH helped her regain a stronger fanbase and critic appreciation, so her career is in best position it's been in awhile

she had her time. it's for sure over and not coming back. personally for me I don't like a lot of tattoos and stop liking a person when they get a lot. also she over exposed herself she's incapable of getting attention from that again

It sticks out like a sore thumb. A career worst!

Well, yeah, it's unfortunate but no one can last forever at the top. Miley has done enough to secure herself an icon status which is more than many of her peers can say. She has made it to Billboard's Greatest of All Time list, after all.

At this point, it's more productive for her to keep working on rebuild her touring demand globally than try to chase quick hits in the US. That being said, Miley has a history of proving people wrong when she wants to.

People thought there was nothing left for Miley without Hannah Montana and then Bangerz era happened and gagged everyone. In 2017, people thought she was artistically lost and commercially done and then she bounced back with Plastic Hearts. Maybe she has some smash hits in her for next era?
