In this case BTS doesn't even benefit that much from digital sales from China for you to try to explain their success with it. 

 

I don't even like BTS but they've the sales and streaming from Spotify/Youtube to justify their massive CSPC numbers. BTS may never be on the same level of public awareness compared to Rihanna/Taylor or other western acts but the numbers are there! 

I’m a BlackPink fan (have every version of every record) and I was a Taylor Swift fan from debut until 1989. Acknowledging that their fans manipulate streams regularly is no different than bringing up the payola’d artists of the 2000s or certain artists who faked sales - it’s important for context. 
 

China’s “government” had to step in to help limit digital bulk buys, sis. They had a single outsell every song ever in less than a year in recorded sales and it also outsold every other song ever in digital sales in just 24 hours. Do you really think a song is earning the digital sales of Poker Face in the streaming era, let alone doing it in 24 hours in one country where no album has ever even sold 5M copies before?  
 

BTS fans are massive, but it’s important to note that most of their success comes from a very vocal fanbase manipulating charts which is incredibly normal for South Korea. Even South Korea had to change the way streams count because boy group stans do “zombie streams” late at night to help their faves chart high.

They Unreliable. From their inflation of some numbers to them making list of best-selling artists ww when they don't take the time to calculate all top artists around the world, especially in Asia where many sold +50M, +100M but nowhere on those lists.

The truth is right now is the biggest period for the music industry since the peak of album sales in the late 90s. They are making a LOT of money from streaming. Taylor is making them the $$$ equivalent of selling over 10m+ albums every year.

Artists complain, not the record labels. The labels are flush full of cash. There have been plenty of articles on financial reports. And look at the music videos these days, they’re full of expensive CGI. 10 years ago everything looked so much cheaper.

Only if you separate eras in certain period like pre 2008, 2008-2015 and post 2016. The streaming is inflanting the success of certain eras in comparsion with eras in the olden times.

No but it's an upgrade from unitedworldchart i guess 

For songs that are on its respective album it's okish, for songs without an album just no a fishy way to inflate album "sales" 

The think their data is somewhat reliable but their formula is what concerns me. Like they add orphans to total album sales and you know they count 100% of the feature acts while some of feature acts should only take like 10% for the song credits.
