Maluma, what went wrong?

Featured Replies

As a non Spanish speaker, I felt his music was catchier to me than the current latin artists and thought he'd be as big as Bad bunny or Rosalia worldwide right now. What went wrong?

Did the straights drop him after the gay allegations?

zero talent :gaycat:

But he had catchy songs :gaycat:

Too safe, too "straight", and too basic. Just like J Balvin and the rest of them.

They didn't adapt to the new reggaeton wave (more modern and experimental) like Bad Bunny.

His music is not interesting, he doesn't bring anything new or fresh to the table, he just feels there. He serves with his body tho, and we appreciate it, but yeah...

A little bit of this and the music is too repetitive and boring

He's like the Latino Drake except softer and he keeps releasing the same romantic songs, it's getting boring.

He had like a WW hit then flop then another big hit... Hawai was the last big Global hit a new smash must be coming

2015 = Borro Casette

2017 = Felices Los 4

2019 = HP

2020 = Hawaii

Also btw he prove he was a thing in Europe he did an arena tour.... Bad Bunny is kind of a flop in Europe (except Spain)

He is hot …… but that’s pretty much it

he is not interesting in any way

the world could have lived without his music and doesnt bring anything new everytime he releases something

Meanwhile others like Bad Bunny keep shocking and reinventing with new sounds and visuals

If he wasn't 2020 attractive standard looking nobody would care about him.

I believe many of those "hot artists" are over exposed cause they know they will attract a large amount of people who aren't really here for the music : young girls and gay community...

That also explain the all baiting/thirst posts they all pull and that become insane since Instagram culture boomed.

When i look other artists like Charlie Puth (who has many music abilities) or even Shawn Mendes (he was formerly great with the music he pulled) they now purely look/sound like random artists who are just here to sell onlyfan accounts :smiley:

Little to no talent and his songs are tired. Besides he's not that charismatic either.

I used to like him 4-5 years ago but he's boring.

This. Bad Bunny and Rosalia winning because they are perceived as artistes whereas the cheap bops people like J Balvin, Maluma, Ozuna, Nicky Jam, even Daddy Yankee are out. Karol G has changed her sound to be a bit more interesting and she's succeeding too. Rauw Alejandro releases quick bops but he dresses quirky and dances so he fits right now. Shakira the perennial queen of pop absorbing whatever trend is happening atm. Crazy how she's seen them come and go at this point, from the mid/late 90s scene with the likes of Mana and Diego Torres, mid 00s with Julieta Venegas, Calle 13, Daddy Yankee's beginnings, early 2010s with Don Omar, late 2010s with the artists that are now flopping, and now. It's a bit wild to me how kids in middle school now are bopping to Te Felicito while I was bopping to La Tortura and Las de la Intuicion in middle school, and Gen Xers were bopping to Estoy Aqui :rip: Same woman different hair

He’s doing well enough and still makes profit for his label. He’s fine

Nothing went wrong. Y’all confusing quantity over quantity

others might have huge peaks but he has classics with shakira, jlo, and Madonna. He’s also prettier and sings the best out of all of them. When will others?

He’s doing fine. Not every artist has to be huge. Being moderately successful isn’t a drag.

he leaned too much into the whole "dirty boy - f boy" image. He needed to evolve but refused to do so for some weird reason. He could have had what Bad Bunny has right now. He needed to show an artistic evolution and take risks but he was more concerned about looking good in his music videos, having generic sounding bops and always grinding on chicks thinking that will be a cute look even as he aged which was not a good look.

He needed to class things up and step it up sonically. Take risks. But he did not and got comfortable making easy money until the GP just dropped him because they got bored and moved on to the next younger, cuter f-boy available. Thats it.

He will continue to do well but he will stagnate at this point. He could have been at least 3x bigger by now. Oh well.
