Will Olivia get Dixie Chick'd?

Featured Replies

Nah, Olivia probably has a mostly progressive fanbase anyways, they won't leave her

Love that she brought out Lily Allen :jonny5:

No, artists are not cancelled by going against the political establishment anymore

Republicans thankfully don't hold pop culture power anymore. They had power to back in 2000s without social media to cancel Chicks and Janet and ban Madonna but times have changed. Remember when they tried to cancel J.Lo and Shakira for having sexy Superbowl performance? LOL no one moved!

No, because Olivia's audience agrees with her. The Chicks' had a very different audience. It's not comparable.

I still don’t know why the Dixie chicks got cancelled like that. What a weird ******* time. I love them. Thank his it happened tho or else we never would i’ve got their iconic album the long way around.

No.

Also wow, Lily looks and sounds great. She hasn't aged one day. Can she make her grand comeback already? :jonny:

Maines's remark triggered a backlash in the United States. Many country fans saw her as traitorous for not supporting the president

Wtf :rip: did these people not know how democracy works?

No, because since the beginning, her stans, esp. her core stans are not gun totting Conservatives, unlike Dixie :celestial2:

You can chalk it up to the one successful thing the George W. Bush administration did: milk 9/11 for every ounce of public support that was available. His presidency was already coasting even before the end of his first and then this national tragedy (international tragedy really) comes out of the dark and they used it to their advantage. They managed to turn an entire country, blue and red alike, into a country backing their president. At the time, we had not yet seen just how big a disaster the invasion of Iraq was so it was easy for the administration to play off the still high emotions of 9/11 to spin the invasion as just and a success. Some saw through it, but the American public en masse at the time did not. They were shortsighted due to their fear and their anger. Flash forward to 2007 and most everyone saw Bush and Iraq for what it truly was and he left office one of the most unpopular presidents in history. The Chicks never really returned to commercial prominence in the manner they had before, but they were more than vindicated when the truth came out.

Gaslighter is their best tho so those years of ostracisation were out to good use

Oh absolutely, they never missed a beat musically. Gaslighter was indeed stellar.

No. First off, Olivia is not in country and she doesn't have an ignorant hillbilly fanbase. Unfortunately for The Chicks, they truly didn't realize how stupid hicks are. However, they recovered and many of their fans never left them and now they have the fanbase they always wanted anyway. Queens.

no?? her fanbase is young and this is not 2001

hell no. times have drastically changed over the span of the last 20 or so years. matter of fact, artists are more likely to GET cancelled if they dont speak up about sensitive political issues, social media has made it a norm for public figures to speak out on political issues. whether its sincere or just following a trend for building your own reputation and pandering to the emotions of fans is actually a topic we should focus on

Nobody even knows about this performance, so no. :rip: This thread is the first time I’ve been made aware of it.
