You can chalk it up to the one successful thing the George W. Bush administration did: milk 9/11 for every ounce of public support that was available. His presidency was already coasting even before the end of his first and then this national tragedy (international tragedy really) comes out of the dark and they used it to their advantage. They managed to turn an entire country, blue and red alike, into a country backing their president. At the time, we had not yet seen just how big a disaster the invasion of Iraq was so it was easy for the administration to play off the still high emotions of 9/11 to spin the invasion as just and a success. The Chicks never really returned to commercial prominence in the manner they had before, but they were more than vindicated when the truth came out.

hell no. times have drastically changed over the span of the last 20 or so years. matter of fact, artists are more likely to GET cancelled if they dont speak up about sensitive political issues, social media has made it a norm for public figures to speak out on political issues. whether its sincere or just following a trend for building your own reputation and pandering to the emotions of fans is actually a topic we should focus on
