She wasn’t banned from radio completely but she was blacklisted from getting regular airplay

She chose Concert West for touring to make more money for touring instead of the Clearchannel conglomerate which had a monopoly on radio stations at the time.

Shocking fact Britney Spears has so many pop classics and didn't need radio payola like many of her contemporaries getting played on pop/rhythmic/urban heavily and still outsold bar Eminem.

It'd be hard now to sell almost 5M albums with a barely top 30 song as the biggest hit from that era.

Also, "Bootylicious" was the last song by a girl group to go #1 on the Hot 100. Yup, since 2001 there has been no other song by a girl group to achieve this.

and that right there says it all. A song like Bootylicious would be the last song for a girl group to hit #1. Grand opening...grand closing.

Yes youthful legends

Stevie Wonder is the youngest artist who happens to be male to have a #1 song and album at 13.

Britney Spears is the youngest female artist to have a #1 song and album at 17.

Legends set the bar:celestial3:

The fact that Roar is Katy’s last solo Top 10 hit is kind of shocking. Nobody at the time would’ve predicted that.

Shakira is the only South American artists to have reach the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 (Hips Don’t Lie)

J Balvin (I Like It) and Carolina Gaitán/Mauro Castillo (We Don't Talk About Bruno) have done it as well. They're all Colombian :dies:

Eminem has more #1 hits in the UK with 10 than in the US with 5.

Demi Lovato’s one and only #1 album from all the way back in 2009 wasn’t even the biggest or best selling album the week it went #1 as MJ’s Number One’s outsold

There was a thread like this on ATRL few years, where someone posted Britney doesn't have #1 album in UK. I was really shocked by it, so I looked into her other country peaks, I was very surprised to see:

She doesn't have #1 in NZ either

Only one #1 in Aus, Italy and maybe some other countries.

Omg is that true? :rip:

The girl who released 911 as a single only has 3 album tracks that have ever charted on the Hot 100.

Very shocking chart fact considering her album artist status

yup, zero #1 album in UK/NZ, and only one #1 album in AUS/Italy. There should be more countries with underwhelming numbers but I stopped checking, once the initial factor of shock was gone.

Christina Aguilara has 0 solo top 40 hits in USA, Canada and Europe since 2012 :clap3:

Meatloaf's album "Bat out of hell"  has spent over 10 years (552weeks) on the Official UK album charts, and continues to sell 200k yearly.

Britney spears was the First Female artist in billboard history to debuted at number #1 with a debut single (baby one more time) Jennifer Lopez became the second Female artist in billboard history to debuted at number #1 with a debut single (if you had my love).

Jennifer Lopez became not only the first artist in billboard history to have a hit number #1 on the hot100 & hot200 & Airplay in the same week, she's also is the only person in billboard history to do so with remixes! A double record.

Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” was released in 2017, flopped completely, and eventually went #1 over two years later in 2019 due to the song being featured in a popular Netflix movie. This took her from being almost completely unknown, on the verge of being dropped, to a mainstream superstar within a matter of weeks. Her 2016 single “Good as Hell” subsequently went #3 over three years later in 2019. The Kate Bush effect before the Kate Bush effect.

Avril Lavigne’s last Top 10 hit in the US was “Girlfriend” in 2007.

Maroon 5’s debut album was released in 2002, but didn’t climb up the BB200 until 2004 with the success of “This Love”

Lady Gaga’s last solo #1 hit was Born This Way in 2011.

Post Malone is the 10th most successful Hot 100 artist of the 2010’s decade despite his first #1 taking place in 2017. His 2nd and 3rd albums are both in the Top 10 of the most successful albums by unit equivalents EVER according to Billboard. I had no idea he was this popular. :skull:

Camila Cabello has more #1’s on the Hot 100 than Nicki Minaj and Shawn Mendes.

Whitney Houston’s first seven singles went #1. She still holds this record.

Lorde’s only Top 10 hits are from when she was underage.

Katy Perry’s last Top 10 hit was “Dark Horse” in 2014.

Christina Aguilera’s last solo Top 10 hit was “Keeps Getting Better” in 2008

Lana Del Rey’s only Top 10 hit is an EDM remix despite having several multiplatinum songs.

Charlie Puth has only one solo song to ever chart in the Top 10, “Attention” in 2017.

Enya is one of the highest album sellers EVER spanning across three decades, yet only had one Top 10 hit, “Only Time” in 2000.

Taylor Swift’s “All too Well” is the only song over 10 minutes to go #1.

Wasnt it chained to the rhythm?

This is Enya's 2nd top 10 hit

Despite radio sabotage, Britney's third era was a huge success.

#1 Album on BB200, with 745k sales first week; 4.4 million total pure sales in the US

#1 Most powerful celebrity of 2002 according to Forbes

#6 Highest grossing music tour of 2002, #2 female

#8 on Billboard's Album Year-End chart of 2002

3 #1s music videos on TRL (I'm A Slave 4 U, Overprotected, Boys)

She even broke streaming records with her remix of "Boys," which gained 1.35 million streams on its first 24 hours

- Katy's last solo top 10 was released in 2013, almost a decade ago.

- Xtina's Stripped was bigger than any Britney album in the UK.

- Beyoncé's biggest Hot 100 hit last decade was a Lady Gaga song.

- The first Ant-Man movie, MCU's less successful subfranchise at the time, was more profitable than Man of SteelJustice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League and almost as profitable as Batman vs. Superman (a movie featuring Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman for the first time ever, with cameos from Flash, Aquabro and Cyborg).

Despite no #1 album in the UK, Britney is in the top 10 of best selling female artists there this millennium (2000-2021). She landed above artists with #1 albums such as Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera (the latter not making it to the top 10).

...Baby One More Time (song) debuted at #1 in the UK with a record-breaking 460k sales first week. It's now the 5th best selling female song of all time in the UK.

In Australia, all singles off In the Zone, hit the top position:

  • #1 Me Against the Music
  • #1 Toxic
  • #1 Everytime

In the UK, the singles had an almost identical performance:

  • #2 Me Against the Music
  • #1 Toxic
  • #1 Everytime

There's other major pop girls who have never topped big markets with their albums, like Beyoncé (France) and Taylor Swift (Germany). New Zealand is not a big market, but Britney has 5 #1 hits there:

  • ...Baby One More Time
  • Sometimes
  • Oops!... I Did It Again
  • Hold It Against Me
  • Scream and Shout

She's tied with Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Christina Aguilera. In fact, all MPGs seem to have at least 5 #1 hits there, except Lady Gaga and Adele (both with 3).

But a 16 year old scoring #1 is impressive! It's also Demi's least successful album, so that says something about how chart positions for albums especially are arbitrary and just about the competition from that week.

DWTDTAOSO, Confident were a few hundred copies away from #1, ended up #2.
