Shallow by Gaga not only reached #1 in like every major country but broke records in several of them. Her next single Stupid Love charted for less than a month in some markets and in New Zealand only charted for 2 weeks.

Ok cool, what does that have to do with if the hits she have are classics or not?

James Brown, has more #1 hits on the R&B charts that any other artist, but only made it as high as #3 on the Hot 100with his 1965 single, I Got You (I Feel Good).

 

Bob Dylan never scored a Hot 100 #1 hit. Made it to #2 once however.

 

Creedence Clearwater Revival never scored a #1 hit, but have 5 #2 hits on the Hot 100, all scored between 1969-1970.
