Artists whose globalness is overrated?

Featured Replies

Pink and Shakira. I have never heard a single soul talk about Pink, she basically doesn't exist. I only heard Whenever Wherever, Waka Waka,HDL in my country. The rest are basically unknown (even JLo has more well known hits)

I don’t agree with this.   Bieber is, inarguably, the most international male pop-star to debut since 2010 and I would argue that his global status is bigger than other male pop stars who de

Her album sales (post Oops) are  actually incredibly poor for being the so called ''princess of pop''. Her albums hardly scanned past gold / platinum in most countries after Oops.

Rihanna

She's big in US + some countries in Europe + Australia

But in Asia, she's in Beyonce's level when ppl only use her huge huge hits such as Umbrella, We Found Love, Diamonds only

So Rihanna is big in various continents, but Asia is the end-goal? How transparent :skull:

OT: Taylor. Don't let Asian receipts fool you. There's about several other continents in the world, learn your geography children :sistrens:

Except she's huge in every continent. Don't let racism discredit Asia :sistrens:

People saying Rih..... When she is one of the best selling popstars in the middle east, in china and she has sold over 1M albums total in Japan, also she is by far one of the biggest (if not the biggest in Africa).

Can someone please tell me a country where Rihanna hasnt had successful albums/singles¿? I cant think of any.

OT. Madonna and Britney Spears for sure. They are basically unknown in Puerto Rico and thru out the Caribbean islands. I didn’t know about them until I was a teenager when I started seeking English speaking music. :priceless:

Saying Madonna isn't global because of Puerto Rico only :deadbanana4:

1993:

October 26 Bayamón Puerto Rico Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium N/A 20,000

2016:

January 27[g] San Juan Puerto Rico Coliseo de Puerto Rico 18,539 / 18,539 $2,352,219
January 28[h]

Seems like she's incredibly stable in Puerto Rico for the only 2 times she went there with an almost 25 year gap :cm:

The world can understand English, let alone 3 minute pop songs. The specialization of these small European countries just to call your faves “really global” is funny.

I mean I wouldn't disagree with u if u had a point..

but Britney has 14 Platinum (21) certifications and 5 Gold

while ITZ has 8 Platinum (11) and 14 Gold

even her Greatest Hits album has 7 Plats (14) and 9 Gold

:skull:

and to add...she is one of the artists who Barely certifies her stuff anymore :deadbanana2:

so who actually cares about certifications at this point :michael:

Wow, I guess they aren't global because they aren't known in the *checks again*  Puerto Rico :ahh:

also, Imagine calling Madonna's globalness - overrated :toofunny3:

truly a Lil Monsters

Definitely Kylie. I always read people say she’s big “outside America” which is technically true but it’s literally just Australia and the UK … :rip:

Same level?? Rihanna is more certified than Taylor by a very large margin in places with markets like Brazil and Mexico. She's sold more albums in LA than Taylor so outselling after 2012 clearly didn't matter as she failed to catch her overall sales there. in fact, Rihanna is actually more certified in those two markets than all of her peers (Bar bieber) :rip:

She also has more certifications than Bad bunny there, doesn't tell anything :rip:

Ceritifications in most Latin America countries aren't automatic + they are unexistent since sales died.

Rihanna is only bigger than Taylor in Europe but somehow it is only Asia, how transparent indeed. :rip:

The lies. Rihanna is also bigger in Latin America. :rip:

Album sales:

Europe:

Rihanna - 14,885,000

Taylor - 5,210,000

Latin America:

Rihanna - 1,065,000

Taylor - 795,000

The point being if Rihanna's globalness is overrated, what does that make Taylor when a huge portion of her album sales come from the US? :skull:

And let's not talk about the gap in the UK.

Rihanna - 7,460,000

Taylor - 3,170,000

Taylor's overall album sales are bigger but they're unevenly spread globablly. :rip:

Definitely Rihanna lol.

She's even more local than Beyoncé since Anti

You will be surprised at how people can enjoy music without understanding the language.

Taylor and Rihanna has only 200k pure sales difference in Latin America which is basically equal to 300M streams on Spotify. Taylor probably has much more than that since she is top 5 biggest English music artist in all Spotify Latin America countries.

Is it worms? :skull:

Their career didn't start in 2022 so how is it irrelevant to bring up album sales? We're talking about their overall trajectory so album sales is the logical criteria. :skull:

Anyways :sistrens:

One of them released majority of her albums during 2006-2012 (digital era) and other one released majority of her albums during 2014-2022 (streaming era) so comparing their pure sales only when it clearly gives an advantage to one of them is... not the most logical criteria. :gaycat6:

The excuses :deadbanana4:

Streaming was barely dominant when 1989 dropped and that was like her most global era. Anyways, why argue with a wall :gaycat6:

Not true at all

She had at least 3 hits  around anti.

While taylor hasn't got a hit since reputation. Huge album sales tho

But we all know Rih has always been a singles artist and not an album seller.

Taylor Swift. Even in Asia she's a non factor in Russia and ex soviet countries where her peers actually sold albums. Gaga has a Diamond album with TFM (200 000 copies) and Rihanna 5xPlatinum with GGGB (100 000 copies) in Russia (and these certifications are outdated), Taylor Swift has 0 certified albums there and does terribly on Yandex streaming service. Not to mention Europe.. She has no Platinum selling albums in pure sales in markets like France, Italy etc. etc., basically half of the continent. Non factor in Africa and does below average in South America.
