Idk why HYBE thought they could cover this up. There's way too much evidence and it's all piling up. 

 

At this point a hiatus is probably not enough, because technically that means Garam is still in the group. They need to end her contract tbh. 

I think it came down to pride and inexperience. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to prove they could handle a scandal while trying to save face for their new GG like the big 3, but instead they sunk themselves into a hole and it's blowing up in their face.
