The shout out to Fabiana Palladino does seem a bit random. Did they ever meet while she was over there and how?

It looks like we have the answer about how they know each other. Fabiana Palladino has been a session player and touring musician for quite a long time. She was a touring musician for Lorde and they have known each other for a couple of years.

More info in the Sydney Morning Herald review of Fabiana Palladino's début album.

There is an archived version of the review here.

Quote

At 36, the British musician has already lived a life in the industry as a session player – primarily keyboards, percussion and backing vocals – and a touring musician for artists including SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Sampha and Lorde, who judging from her enthusiastic comments on Palladino's Instagram is especially excited about her former charge's full-fledged launch into solo stardom (“Fabiana, they are NOT ready…” she notes).

"We've been friends for a couple of years, and she's given me a lot of advice,” Palladino says of the Kiwi pop star over Zoom from her home in London. "Although she's a fair bit younger than me, she's obviously had this insane life experience of being an artist at that level; it's nice to have someone like that supporting me.”

I genuinely think she just meant her age. She really cycles the albums around her ages, it feels like it's important to her.

  • Did Lorde work with the Paul Institute/Jai Paul while she was in London last year?   For those that don't know Jai Paul. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/apr/14/jai-paul-coachella

I'm starting to get bored she doesn't say anything about the album. She started to tease new music like 2 years ago. Ugh

Well she recently said it'll be a gag

Since everyone is talking about Coachella, back in 2017 this was the performance that set the standard for the others to follow.

Spoiler

For people looking for more of her Coachella performance, I haven't watched this one, but it looks promising.

The instrumental outro... lives were ended

Also, this site has become so disrespectful of her legacy lately :dies:

Yeah it's getting extremely weird and makes me question the taste of the site tbh.... Hopefully L4 will wake them up

In case some people missed this one from Stereogum.

The Number Ones: Lorde's "Royals"

GRADE: 10/10

"On pop radio, it cut straight through the maximal thump of the Katy Perry and Lady Gaga tracks that were getting big pushes. When Lorde's Pure Heroine album arrived in late September, it sustained the uncanny mood of "Royals" for an admirably restrained 40 minutes."

"In the years after "Royals,” record labels rushed to sign their own versions of Lorde. You could hear her influence in something as minor as the whispery vocals that a full-on mainstream pop star like Selena Gomez adapted. (Gomez, who covered "Royals" on her 2013 tour, will eventually appear in this column.) Shy and talented kids like Alessia Cara and Khalid seemed like transparent attempts to manufacture newer, more obvious versions of Lorde. It's frankly impossible to imagine Halsey and Billie Eilish, two acts that this column will cover, existing without Lorde's example. The shift wasn't immediate, but the pop center moved away from the big-and-bold Katy Perry types.

"Joel Little did some work on her 2017 follow-up LP Melodrama, but her main collaborator was Jack Antonoff, who's already been in this column as a member of Fun. I'd argue that Melodrama is the moment that Antonoff really made the leap to super-producer status. It's an absolute ******* banger of a record."

So is she going to sit on this album for a year before releasing? I really think so...

What do you mean? Is the album already done or are you just speculating?

Complete speculation!! I just feel like she's been showing the progress for so long (and recently) that it is still being worked on. And I get a terrible feeling that it will be mute for the rest of the year. It easily could, based on how she works. January 2025?

I was hoping she would use the 2023 anniversary and recertification of the Pure Heroine era after 10 years, to release new music, but that didn't happen.

I'm thinking that if we were getting a summer release, we probably would have seen some hint of a release coming, perhaps a festival booking or something.

Knowing her, progress might mean she had four songs that she liked and another 2 that will get the "precious metals" treatment. Perhaps we already heard those two songs at the festivals she did last year. I wouldn't rule out late 2024 release.

She was back in New Zealand for her brother's graduation.

97. Rage Against the Machine, Rage Against the Machine
96. Pure Heroine, Lorde

94. Untrue, Burial
93. A Seat at the Table, Solange

Can confirm album is done. Not sure what delay is on release, but it's finished

If Pure Heroine is on the list, I think Melodrama might make it to the list too!

Having both those albums would be incredible and well deserved

Absolutely. Unless she posts something in the next couple weeks, I think northern hemisphere summer release is not happening. Fall would be the only option if it is happening this year.

I'm noticing more and more that she will post as if something is arriving soon, but based on the timeline she is sharing way too prematurely.
