I LOVE this girl. Like I know Solar Power wasn't all that, but the two singles are among her best and speak to me so much, Mood Ring is perfection.

And also unpopular, but I much prefer Pure Heroine to Melodrama, I mean imagine recording Ribs and Buzzcut Season at 16, what a legend.

Really hoping I connect with the next album

Quick recap of the last month or two. We already had a thread on her instagram update, and most things about it and the follow up from Kyle MacLachlan have already been talked about elsewhere.

However, I'm wondering if this is the L4 look?

Maybe not the pyjamas, but depending on where she is in her album release plans, she must be doing her music videos soon, so we should soon see the hairstyle and look we are going to see in the L4 era.

Also we got this interview for songwriters, where Olivia Rodrigo talked about Pure Heroine.

That album is one of my favorites and she still inspires me a lot to this day.

Clash magazine seem to be convinced something is coming this year, but I'm not sure if this is anything more than guesswork at this stage.

She is back home in New Zealand now, commenting on instagram again.

It seems almost certain that instagram is going to be her main social media and method of communicating with fans in 2024.

Might be interesting to see where she goes next when she returns to the UK or US. We really have no idea if they are still writing and recording songs or whether they're in the finial stages of mixing, mastering and getting ready for release.

I feel like recording is completely done. Right now she's just having her classic NZ Summer holiday that she does before every new era. We are probably closer than we have ever been :jonny2:

teases will get bigger after like April imo.

I smell a March release to be fair with an SNL performance, very Green Light-coded

I hope so, but I'd rather she was fixing things that needed fixing if she needs to.

One element of doubt, is that she might have made changes due to her breakup with her ex (we don't really know when that was, but they were seen together in Sydney in March 2023) and maybe she added/deleted a couple of songs. Having been seen with Jim-e Stack in December, she might have been making last minute changes to the album then.

If Lava/Republic want a good chart position for the album, then an earlier release might work better, or perhaps late in the year.

Now we know that she is on the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense Tribute Album, thread here, they are going to have to time things so that the publicity around that release can help L4.

When she was in Melbourne, she said a couple of things about what was coming:

- she said couldn’t wait to show us what comes next

- she also stated that the blonde hair will make sense eventually - does anyone have any idea what that might be about?

https://twitter.com/LordeUpdatesBR/status/1634959388074201088

Perhaps the thing that was about to come next was the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense Tribute Album, and the blonde hair was somehow related.

https://www.hotpress.com/music/lorde-paramore-the-national-and-kevin-abstract-all-to-feature-on-new-talking-heads-tribute-album-23005562

Maybe she was already part of the plans for this album in October 2021 when Rolling Stone published this interview with her and David Byrne of Talking Heads fame?

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/lorde-david-byrne-musicians-on-musicians-1239284/

Or maybe when she created this Sonos SOLARSYSTYM radio channel in early 2022, also available on mixcloud here:

https://www.mixcloud.com/sonos/solarsystym-curated-by-lorde-exclusively-on-sonos-radio/

One of the tracks on the SONOS stream, is "Strange Overtones" by David Byrne and Brian Eno.

She appears to reference this song in the lyrics of her own unreleased song "Invisible Ink", that she performed in her mini tour of European festivals in 2023

-- "Strange overtones bring everything to life"

She did a second steaming event on the Sonos Radio Hour, also in early 2022, and once again available on the mixcloud site and mixcloud app.

https://www.mixcloud.com/sonos/radio-hour-with-lorde/

This SONOS stream includes Talking Heads song "Psycho Killer" where she talks about the visual component of the song.

If you listen on Mixcloud, the song starts around 29:25 in the stream.

There have been quite a lot of David Byrne/Talking Heads connections over the last 2-3 years.

Most likely this album project started some time ago.

Not sure which song she will do for the album, might be "Psycho Killer", but "Once in a Lifetime" would be interesting.

Did she go blonde for the music video, if there is one, and does that help us guess which song she is doing?

But I'm guessing we might get the Stop Making Sense tribute album before L4.

It's been just 2.5 years since Solar Power album release, maybe if we still don't have anything by the end of the year we can call her names.

Do we believe this account, or is it going to be another fake. They've been right on other things before, but maybe they don't know anything we don't.

How much warning do we get about an SNL performance?

Someone must know the list of musical guests quite some time in advance.

In other news, did Lorde go back to brunette hair?

GFwxgiqW0AAa9zX.jpg

Or maybe not?

GF6sw_laUAAok2Q.jpg

I'm guessing brunette hair is back and the blonde hair in the mirror photo is a distraction.

Also, that multicolour water bottle in the brunette hair photo is not cheap.

https://nymag.com/strategist/article/lorde-water-bottle.html

https://thefortyfive.com/news/lordes-brunette-water-bottle/

She also appears to have found a regular place to stay in NYC, although I'm not sure she would be too impressed by the real estate people apparently using her address as some sort of marketing. When we see her in NYC, not far from Electric Lady recording studios, we probably shouldn't assume she is working on music there, it's just her US base.

Spoiler

She appears to have acquired a "corner two-bedroom condo measuring 112sq m, which she purchased ... in 2021".

Did Lorde work with the Paul Institute/Jai Paul while she was in London last year?

For those that don't know Jai Paul.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/apr/14/jai-paul-coachella-festival

https://jai-paul.com/

We know she went to London and people matched up a few things, like a rug and blanket at a recording studio and decided she was at Studio 13 in West London and was working with Jim-e Stack.

F3-BBCKXwAAVeYG.jpgF3-BBCJXgAAh8hl.jpg

https://twitter.com/LordeUpdatesBR/status/1693213847115456589

But she doesn't need to stay in London for most of May to September 2023 to work with Jim-e Stack, who lives in Los Angeles and she has an apartment in West Village, not far from recording studios in NYC.

So she must have been working with other people in London.

We also know she is a fan of Jai Paul and featured one of his songs on her SONOS radio station in 2022. More recently she seems to have had some interaction with Fabiana Palladino who worked with Jai Paul in 2023 and announced her debut album a few weeks ago.

https://twitter.com/search?q=lorde fabiana palladino

Some people think Danny L Harle will be involved, but I'm not seeing a connection other than the fact she is friends with Caroline Polachek. He has been working with Dua Lipa on her new album and probably has a huge list of people wanting to work with him after Desire, I Want to Turn Into You.

Perhaps we could get one song with him, but I'm not expecting a huge involvement there.

Thoughts?

and prayers for L4 this year.

Who else might we get on this album?

Jai Paul seems too reclusive to work with somebody with Ella's fame. Also Homemade Dynamite likely samples his song Str8 Outta Mumbai without credit (it was unreleased at the time, but still he was really hurt by the leak of his music so there could be some tension there). So I agree, I'm not expecting anything to do with him.

I was thinking about this the other day and thought maybe Ariel Rechtshaid might be involved, but that's based on nothing but vibes. And I don't know if Ariel has been in London :michael: I was thinking about this because I only know Jim E-Stack from a couple songs by Empress Of and it seems like Lorde tends to work with more established producers (no shade, I actually really like his work with Empress Of). However, I just looked it up and he worked a lot on Dominic Fike's last album, so I guess he has more experience then I thought

my god we don't care whoever she's been working with just drop it ASAP.

also I won't rule out Jack until we get full credits; the theories around "their beef" scream cupcake Taylor/Lana stan.

It appears that Jai Paul has been working with Haim and Ella is probably more reclusive than the Haim sisters.

https://pitchfork.com/news/haim-say-theyre-working-with-jai-paul-on-new-music/

The shout out to Fabiana Palladino does seem a bit random. Did they ever meet while she was over there and how?

She also probably didn't go to London for 4-5 months to work with Ariel Rechtshaid, although I think he's a great producer.

There doesn't need to be a "beef", but I'm not seeing any benefit in her working with Jack on the album. But if they did, Lorde has an apartment that is probably within walking distance of Electric Lady studio, so they don't need to go to London to work together. I'm trying to figure out which British producer she is likely to have worked with.

She is a fan of James Blake, so that might be another option, but other than covering "Retrograde" a long time ago, there doesn't seem to be any interaction that I'm aware of.

Just to add to the conversation: I think there’s a considerable chance that she might’ve scrapped whatever it is that she worked with Blood Orange. I’m assuming that they worked on something together given how much she cited him and was spotted hanging out with him all throughout 2022 and early 2023. But it seems like she worked on the album most heavily in the second half of 2023. So, idk about their collaboration anymore.

Regarding Jack: I honestly don’t see it happening anymore. Even if there’s no beef involved, they are definitely not close anymore. I’m curious about who produced her Talking Heads cover for the tribute album, that should give us a clue.

This is difficult to guess, because she worked on a song with Tove Lo for Melodrama, and we heard nothing, although I think she did post something about Lady Wood when that came out in 2016. Then we heard her perform "Homemade Dynamite" at Coachella.

There is a chance that the Talking Heads album/song has been in the pipeline for a long time. She did a Rolling Stone interview with David Byrne published Oct 15, 2021 and the photos for that interview are dated August 8th, 2021, before the Solar Power album release. So she might have recorded the Talking Heads song in 2021.

If the Talking Heads song comes out with a Jack Antonoff production credit, people are going to assume she has been working with Jack all the time since Solar Power, but I don't think it would mean that at all, and it wouldn't mean he will have a significant role on L4.

To be frank, I don't believe the Rolling Stone interview directly correlates with the tribute album. It certainly helped establish a connection between the two parties, but it's highly improbable that the album was planned or recorded that far in advance. If anything, I suspect the concept emerged around the time A24 reissued the Stop Making Sense film, so no earlier than 2022 (?)

Considering Paramore's involvement to make a very blurred timeline, we should consider that the band was predominantly on hiatus around ~2021. They discreetly regrouped around January 2022 to begin work on their latest album, released in February 2023. Presumably, producers would have approached Paramore for their project only after being aware of the band's reunion, which likely occurred post-release of their album, or at the very least, after the debut of their lead single. Also, just to be extra annoying about this, I checked their Behind the Scenes video for "Burning Down the House" and Hayley's hairstyle aligns with how she looked during last year's tour, and their 2023 touring band features prominently in the video.

From the Talking Heads tribute album thread, according to some sources:

The Lorde track will be "Take Me to the River" (4:23)

Something I mentioned in that thread, but it probably belongs here, as well as being a fan of Brian Eno's music, she appears to have a set of Oblique Strategies cards
https://www.enoshop.co.uk/product/oblique-strategies.html

GH-_DQCaIAArLYW.jpg

https://twitter.com/Lorde_fix/status/1765339736661745824

Edit: perhaps there was a clue in here, since Brian Eno was producer on Talking Heads album, More Songs About Buildings and Food, which included the track "Take Me to the River". He also worked on Low, Heroes and Lodger for David Bowie.

Perhaps she even worked with Eno, the original producer of the album.
