October 3, 20241 yr comment_26618099 I just came back from the Joker and I have some opinions. I will quickly summarize them here and maybe I will write them longer in the future. Without giving any spoilers: the movie is not as bad as some critics are making it out to be. It IS a good movie. HOWEVER (the following parts are FULL OF spoilers) About the movie: Spoiler The second half of the movie is a mess and not in a good way. The first half was great but the pacing of the second half was chaotic. I do not understand how the judge let Arthur defend himself when the whole trial was about whether he is mentally stable or not. It did not make any sense. And his defense was super cringe. Horrible writing and pacing. Some of the car scenes where he was being carried between Arkham and courtroom could have been cut. Like WE GET IT, it looks good. Some of the courtroom scenes could also been cut, they made no sense for the plot and felt very random. About Lady Gaga's acting: Spoiler She is brilliant in the movie. Her acting and singing is amazing. This was her best performance as an actress. I also understand why people wanted more of Lee because she felt like an important part of the story and there was so much to discover about her but the movie never went there. Some of the singing parts could have been actual dialogues that show the depth of her character. Also the movie would have been amazing if only Todd changed 3 things: Cut down the courtroom scenes and do not let Arthur represent himself. It was just a bad idea that made everything cringe. Let Lee do the explosion toward the end. She HAD the crazy in her, but the movie never showed it to us. Let them either get away together or let Lee kill Joker herself. That random guy killing Joker served no purpose and was an awful decision. It would have been made more sense if either Lee killed him OR they drove away together and she kicked him out of the car at some point and left him. I agree with Grace on the #GagaCut but I think if it ever gets released it is not going to help her acting career at all. The best way to get out of this mess is releasing LG7 lead with the movie hype and moving onto the next era and this was a very smart decision from her and her team.
