The solo version od Die For You has over 2.4 billion streams on Spotify alone, almost as much as Shallow

 

The song went mega viral, ofc a remix was needed for it to peak higher, but lets not pretend The Weeknd needs a feature to properly smash. You just need a good song and a timing. Miley is a good example, nobody was expecting Flowers to become one of the biggest smash hits of all time. My point is - you can never write someone off.
