Barbra Streisand. She had a more acclaimed/successful music and movie career than Cher. Barbra is an award winning song writer, actress and director. 
Gaga is coming close to surpassing Cher, but it will take time before she surpasses Barbra

I think when she said that she is working as fast as she can, she meant more for fans who she knows are eagerly awaiting it, not necessarily because her label have given her a deadline. And even if she does have a deadline, it could still be several months away and they planning to release in 2025 after awards season. She'd likely want to finish the album before her schedule is overtaken by JFAD promo and campaigning. In theory, 2024 is still possible but the more time that passes (and we know the album is still being made) it seems more unlikely as it's definitely not coming in the summer and it's hard to imagine her releasing a new album around the same time as JFAD.

Yeah, Cher highkey stopped trying once she won for Moonstruck, as legendary as she is. The only roles/projects she's known for after her win are Burlesque and Mamma Mia 2 which is...

 

It feels like Gaga is in it for the long haul and sincerely loves acting. I honestly think she'll pull a Babs and try directing at some point, although Babs was an actor before a pop singer. I think that once she gets a few more credits under her belt, Gaga will be seen as the ultimate singer-turned-actor, and potentially a defining movie star for her time.

As if she needed Bobby or any of them to land a deal for Joker 2.  Her acting agency is completely different.

Imma need a few more pop albums before she fully commits herself to becoming a defining movie star.

Who's "y'all"?  I can and do in fact give them credit in situations where credit is due (meticulously planning and executing such a flawless career reinvention after the depths of ARTPOP for one) but can also whack them for their general letharginess and slacking that they often demonstrate when it comes to her music management and business related decisions and the amount of squandered opportunities over the years, not being able to even change an incorrectly tagged YouTube audio to one of her songs so it could actually chart, as someone accurately brought up a few pages ago in relation to WB acting relatively faster in taking that viewers' discretion warning down, being one of many, many such cases where they dropped the ball. Don't know what part offended you.

 

Let's just keep it moving because it's all happy vibes rn and there's no point going back and forth over this when this is a topic of contention almost daily here.

It was never going to win SOTY, unless they replaced Shallow with it in the 2019 Grammys. In the 2020 Grammys where it was actually nominated, Interscope invested everything they had for a Billie sweep 

 

Shallow becoming a massive hit that charted for over 40 weeks and ARUTW becoming a streaming hit with no investment was a great outcome

Yeah it's hard to make apples to apples comparisons as the movie industry is so different now but Barbra Streisand was one of the biggest marquee names of New Hollywood, lead box office smashes across different genres and decades (not to mention her multiple soundtrack smashes) before shifting to directing, becoming only the third female director to ever be nominated for Best Picture back in the 90s. She even has an iconic swing and miss with Hello Dolly! that effectively sank the big budget traditional movie musical as a reliable box office draw on release. 

 

 

It's a truly iconic career and it's big that Gaga is even being compared so early in her transition to film, and racking up as many noms as she has so far.

Cher also did far more movies than Gaga has in a similar time frame, as well having an initial failed attempt a decade before, earning her salt on Broadway before her string of successes in the 80s. So while her career in film slowed down after her Oscar win, she had put in years of work before that capstone (and she was in three movies the year she won, including The Witches of Eastwick — the kind of studio system, movie star hustle that Gaga has carefully tip toed around so far while building her credibility).

 

But yes, Gaga becoming this big a draw in the modern era has never really been done by a popstar which is why so many people are itching to see her fail.

 

The only other star that was shaping up to potentially make that kind of cultural shift was Madonna with a string of decent gigs, but Hollywood never warmed to her fully as an actress, the climate was less forgiving (treated like a punching bag by the Razzies), she had more misses than hits and she struggled to build on what success she did have, and by the 00s the door was shut.

 

The closest modern contemporary in terms of movie stardom for a pop star is Jennifer Lopez. Before Gaga she was the biggest example, but she again built her career in a different climate in the 90s / 00s on mid to low budget rom coms and thrillers.
