November 10, 20232 yr comment_24855749 ARTPOP's 10th anniversary made me feel so nostalgic for the era. I remember when Applause came out and I secretly liked it. I was still in the closet at the time and pretended that I don't care about pop girls, but at home I was blasting ARTPOP songs every afternoon. The album is such a beautiful, kooky, and liberating piece of art. I will forever be grateful for everything Gaga has done for the queer community and for me personally through her advocacy, her art, and unabashed commitment to role-modelling authenticity. It may seem silly and insignificant to some in retrospect, but in my early teens those messages were very important. I wouldn't be the person that I am today if it weren't for ARTPOP. It kickstarted my journey of queer joy and I recognise it as the most formative album of my teenage years. ARTPOP, you will always be famous PS: We don't need Gaga or her team to be releasing 10th anniversary specials for us to celebrate the album. We know it was a commercial dud and Gaga was depressed and sad the entire time she was making/performing it. She doesn't have positive associations with the album, and it's okay if she wants to distance herself from it. The tweet she posted two years ago was very sweet, but I never expected anything more.
