I don't like the way they're talking about this. In order to be eligible for many of the Best Song categories, the song has to be written specifically for the movie at hand. They're making it sound like the song wasn't written for the movie and instead they just chose the one Gaga submitted to them.

They released the song on the day tickets for the movie became available to buy. This is not a Lady Gaga lead single, this is a single from the movie Top Gun. The purpose is to promote the movie, not promote Gaga.

I misread this as they took a Gaga demo song and incorporated it in the film. We don't want another Moulin Rouge "Come What May" situation and be ineligible for the Oscars. It actually stated that Gaga had a song written for the film although still in demo form (early draft without polish). Pheeew!!!

The producers let record labels know they have a spot for an original song in the film and she wrote one for it and submitted it for consideration, like many other artists did, and they picked her. She's eligible.
