Joanne GIF by Lady Gaga

I wonder if Chroma will surpass Joanne units in US?

outisde of anglsophere, witness was actually a cute global era that didn't do too dissimilar to Chromatica in key markets.  For example in France/Germany the singles grabbed gold/plat. The collabs being on TTH gave similar tea too. Outside of that, Chromatica performed much stronger in US/UK/AUS/NZ/Japan.

Chroma is at 1.4M in the US while Joanne is at 1.5M

so yeah possible Chroma overtakes it, but doubt it'll be by much

LADY GAGA SINGLE COVERS RATE REMINDER

Welcome to the Lady Gaga single covers rate, where we will be ranking 41 covers! You are allowed to rank in increments of .25, ranging from .25 through 10. You are allowed one zero (0) and one eleven (11). Rankings to my PMs will be due on Sunday, April 30th by 4pm EDT.

To help in reducing some bias of comparing covers to others (specifically from the same era), I have shuffled the order with a randomizer. While I do recommend ranking the covers as individuals - how much you like the picture overall, the details, how well it represents the song - it is ultimately up to you on what your criteria is.

The way eveyone started screaming when they started seeing gaga in silhouette

It's fascinating how commercially speaking Joanne is Gaga's "flop" album but ARTPOP is her certified token "flop" album, likely because ARTPOP was a decline in popularity while Joanne was a sane return to quality.

Being a stan 2013-2017 was ROUGH with Gaga having back to back albums that either could be construed as underperformances. I'm grateful that ASIB-Chromatica were good performances, and makes me hopeful that LG7, LG8, LG9, etc. will be good eras because she can only go up, I suppose.

(Though it did help that Applause and Million Reasons were decent smashes.)

ASIB - 10M globally

smash

Chromatica - 4M globally

underperformance but could have gone 6M if the era happened the way it was supposed to I guess

Eh, Chromatica wasn't an underperformance when you take her prior studio effort into account. It'll be seen as a moderate success in the long run thanks to its two top 5s. Not a huge smash but not a flop either, and 4 million is amazing for her having dropped the era like she did.

has Joe Germanotta been announced as Tucker Carlson's replacement yet?

Joanne was bigger than ARTPOP & Chromatica in the US, but the latters have much better WW stats.

Overall success wise, it probably goes: Chromatica >= ARTPOP > Joanne. TCB success helps a lot.

Take back those words about Joanne. That era was pretty perfect all things considered since she stuck to her plan and got everything done. Joanne served as a stepping stone in his career renaissance so it worked out in the end. ARTPOP is what started her decline.

I'm with you on Joanne having been an amazing era overall when you account for roll-out, performances, aesthetics, interviews, promo, events, etc. I'm just saying that purely by numbers you would think it's her "flop" but ARTPOP will always have that designation.

Joanne is some of her most transformative work outside of The Fame and Monster in terms of what it did for her career. What "sucked" was just waiting out the long-term effects it would eventually have (Perfect Illusion walking so that her other work could run). Otherwise, it'll be remembered as a pivotal era for her career.

Outside of The USA Joanne was quite the flop and did nothing for her career
