I’m not 100%, but I remember someone stating that her contract leaked in 2020 and there were timelines she had to meet.

I remember that contract, and I believe that it was originally a 5 album contract (despite leaking in 2020, the document was from 2013 or 2014, when she was 4/5 of the way there with ARTPOP - an amendment was added to make TFM count toward her contract, so ARTPOP was definitely #4). I believe the contact specified that the contract could be renewed after 5 albums if both parties (interscope and Gaga) wanted to. When the renewal happened, Gaga had more leverage because she became a megastar and earned Interscope millions. To renew, she likely renegotiated the terms of the original contract to offer her more artistic freedom and, I would imagine, can no longer be forced to release on a certain timeline. 

 

I could be completely wrong, but I think this is what happened. So we don't really know the terms of her contract now, only the terms that dictated her first 5 releases. She was a nobody when she signed, so whatever terms she's under now probably offer her significant more freedom.

Love for Sale counts as an album in her contract. That came out in 2021. She probably doesn’t have to release another album until 2025

Tbh, I think there's a good chance that critics back up J:FáD a lot more than they did the first. A lot of American critics had their pitchforks out ready to go because of all the controversy surrounding it (that ultimately led to nothing). If the film lives up to it's potential, I think they will be much more fair. And weirdly enough, the first one had quite a bit of Euro "highbrow" support anyway, and J:FáD is looking to be even more aggressively "auteur".
