You have to give it to Gaga that her commercial performance has been generally consistent. Artpop, Joanne, and Chromatica have roughly sold around the same in overall units, no?

 

Her first week album sale numbers have also trended up Joanne to ASIB to Chromatica.

Joanne sold more than 650,000 pure sales while Chromatica sold 420,000 pure without one tenth the promotion Joanne received.

 

Joanne also sold 1,8 million digital singles due to its discounts and countless performances, while Chromatica only pulled 0,4 million.

 

That’s at least 370K units difference  

However, you gotta give credit where it’s due. Million Reasons is an obviously bigger hit in the US than ROM, heading towards 5x platinum

She had a massive debut with ROM on streaming, the era simply didnt have longevity and thats all, Joanne didnt have "an adventage" since Gaga had massive playlisting for both of the singles and collabs with big streaming artists

Playlisting is the bare minimum in this day and age  The problem is her label pulling the plug after one negative update

Its not the bare minimum, its everything. Once you have radio and good playlisting, you dont even need to get out of your house the entire era. Look at Beyonce.

in that way we can say Chromatica had tour bundles with 2 stadium dates that sold fairly well

+ bundles with merch that sometimes didn't even ship and still counted on BB200 (posters)

or signed copies

at least Chroma still pulled some units but it wasn't THAT left alone? it had streaming giants on it and was tailored for that audience

That’s still not enough to catch upon Joanne’s units. Chromatica has doubled Joanne’s streaming stats on every visible platform, however it would have needed huge, not just decent streaming stats to match Joanne’s total units. 
 

Chromatica lacked longevity, that’s for sure, even more when it comes to physical sales. If i remember correctly, Chromatica nosedived in physical sales after its first week (which counted all pre-pandemic preorders) and a lot to do with that had the closed music stores due to the pandemic and the ongoing riots. 
 

However, there is no excuse for its lack of longevity on streaming. It debuted with huge numbers, much bigger than what any of us expected, but it definitely didn’t live up to these figures. 
 

I just wish her team will focus more on how well they present her next record to the public when it comes to packaging, especially on vinyl. Vinyl sales are experiencing a huge resurgence right now and I just hope that she won’t come up with some stupid, half-assed concept like she did with the white/transparent Chromatica vinyl. She better put out LG7 when everything is planned and almost ready to be shipped. I remember a lot of fans being pissed at the “signed” ugly vinyl records that were shipped 5 months after the record came out.

 

She better capitalise on vinyl sales with LG7, especially since she still has a large fanbase waiting to support it and to spend money to own a cool vinyl by her, so they better put in the work and make it look worth buying.

I thought it was common knowledge why she was depressed. You didn’t pay attention I guess. There was a tv interview around the VMA’s or 911 mv’s release  where she specifically said she was depressed about Joanne not helping her dad, about her being Lady Gaga and people putting phones into her face and treating her like an object. 
 

Also, just a couple of days ago, we had receipts here that were posted with her producers saying it was Gaga who wanted to create a dance album with LG6. It all started with her. No one forced her to do a dance record, it was her idea.

I just want Gaga to have more meaningful songs on LG7. 
 

The “Dance through the pain” message of Chromatica was cute for a few songs but it wasn’t a big enough thesis for a whole album. 
 

TFM, Born This Way and Joanne had such massive mission statements and Gaga got to explore their topics fully. ARTPOP also had a really large message but it was too complex and didn’t really reflect in most of the songs. TF had a simpler message but she was able to explore it at an interesting angle and make it fresh
