Objectively, Joanne is her biggest bomb, but it then was carried by her Super Bowl performance. Today, the only song that is remembered (by the gp) from that album is Million Reasons, which makes sense since it was performed at the Super Bowl. The set list was her top selling hits + MR.

For me there’s little in between J/AP/C they’re evenly matched in terms of CSPS 3-5m CSPS. For me none were true flop eras but the narrative for Joanne was different to ARTPOP, and then for Chromatica again I think only fomos saw a bomb PR-wise it was all about the peaks - a digital era tea

ARTPOP is remembered as her huge downfall bc of

- hip injury

- cancellation of BTW Ball

- going from 1M first week to barely 260k in one album

- Applause not reaching #1

- 29 weeks on the BB200

- struggled to actually move that much units outside its first month, and that was slightly saved bc of Black Friday week that made ARTPOP resurge a bit

- the media coverage which was never positive for the era

- the whole DWUW fiasco

vs

Joanne was seen as a middle of the road cycle, yes she didn't OUTDO ARTPOP in terms of units but she didn't decline as much and she had to fight way more to see her songs being played

yet the album wasn't a hit either, it did bring her more respect aa bit and allowed her to venture into ASIB

while Chromatica wasn't truly seen as a huge downfall from ASIB mostly due to COVID and it being a dance album with all clubs being under lockdown

so yeah we see it as a downgrade commercially but overall, the media doesn't see her as a flop like they did during ARTPOP

A little story time ladies. I went to the Chromatica Ball last Summer with a close friend of 3 years. 2 months after the concert, he made a new boyfriend and kicked me out of his life. So whenever I see videos or pictures from CBT I get reminded of him and Replay.mp3 how trashy he behaved to me. :monkey:

Why would a romantic relationship affect a friendship? People are weird like that

I mean BTW is her only catalogue album that has a chance to re-enter outside of TF

ASIB is pretty much dead in US

Chromatica is surviving to stay on the Dance/Electronic chart

while ARTPOP has pretty much no chance

Her music from TFM and BTW is the one that is standing the test of time the most tbh.

Gen Z totally got into it.

Her next record shoukd be in the same road. With some new fresh influences

Yeah it’s about narrative. Like Katy’s witness album performed similar to Joanne/Chromatica album run in a lot of Europe, but it was seen as a downfall and flop when really the numbers were OK. The difference being it getting panned too, whereas ARTPOP panning was more the era and tabloid then the music or the numbers. The recurrents for these albums are never pretty, glad ARTPOP may reach 700-800k with a single deleted - Bangers does 900k

yeah Gaga is lucky she never reaally got one album truly panned cause ARTPOP was mostly just hate towards her as a person than the actual material, same for Joanne a bit

i wrote it in the KP base as well, but it makes me SCREAM how also Roar, in these days (as Applause) is having new peak streams in years :dies: 2013 all over again

Sour Candy was a promo single

People are truly turning away from new music.

This well-know economics journalist, Derek Thompson, did a whole piece on how media, culture, institutions, leaders, etc. are increasingly becoming reliable on older things.

In terms of music, that's why you have more instances of veterans (Miley, Taylor, Beyoncé, Gaga, etc) generating more hype than newer artists. Artists like Olivia Rodrigo breaking out big are truly a rare instance now.

It doesn’t surprise me cause I believe Capitol are the main drivers of  tiktok, I’m just glad interscope got there for Gaga.

unfortunately I feel HMH will truly get HoG’d this era in terms of just being present at noms and we know this kind of thing is important to Gaga Vs. Her albums free falling, so I think that might push her to moving away from BloodPop

Gaga has tried to recreate those albums. With ARTPOP and Chromatica. Stupid Love was supposed to be a call back to Bad Romance. It is impossible for Gaga to recreate the buzz of those eras, even when the music is similar. There’s a reason a song like Bloody Mary is going viral over Replay. Both songs are in similar lanes, but the energy of TF, TFM and BTW are truly timeless

Her next record should be a new direction. Joanne and ASIB was a breath of fresh air. She has reached her peak in dance pop. Time for something new. There are so many genres for her to explore

I don't know that much about comparisons on commercial success for her last albums but Artpop was Gaga's last truly exciting and intriguing era to follow.

This is has happened now with both Stupid Love and Hold My Hand they sound like BTW/ASIB Japan bonus tracks which isn’t bad but she can’t seem to compete with her peak in pop.

Personally as well  I think TFM/BTW benefit from over 6 singles, she’s almost 40 I cannot see it happening and since we agreed Chromatica was the style of album that needed singles to push the streams, alls another TFM/BTW would do is make her look fad? But I understand where people come from on this (where as I didn’t before)

ASIB is right there, literally her best era since 2011 :toofunny3: Joanne was a solid era but I hated it in real-time. I appreciate it much more in hindsight

To me ASIB was just Shallow, its unexpected success and the award season afterwards... It was grand but it wasn't like a typical era with music videos, different performances, interviews, etc. With ASIB Gaga had a storyline to follow and her looks were mostly in the same vein of formal/classy... During Artpop she was more spontaneous, daring and intriguing.

Chromatica was exciting to follow too because every time you thought it couldn't get worse something else bad happened

This was a really good cover. They nailed the bridge when so many can't.

This is a complete rewrite of what it was like to follow Gaga during the artpop era. It was awful. Single flops, single switches, the worst execution of any of her eras, obvious signs of depression and over reliance on drugs, cancellations of major projects, everyone dunking on her, her team leaving her, a video potentially simulating sexual assault featuring r kelly  that gets cancelled, etc. all while her competitors were peaking in success. It was miserable to be on this forum during that time.

Complaint after complaint would come in if she had another era like artpop.

If Gaga did a tour of just ASIB (I mean, she can easily sing the Bradley songs), it would sell out pronto. And the era could have been longer if they released ARUTW. I am less annoyed with her team but more her fans who did not ARUTW released because they want bops!!!
