It's easy to make that mistake but she did explain it before. Originally she was making an album of dark pop bops with RedOne which he described as an updated, modernized version of TFM. These songs were inspired by her AHS Countess role and "the art of darkness" (she said this on AHS press interviews). Then when she met Ronson she scrapped everything except for Angel Down and instead made Joanne in 6 months, in an attempt to connect with her father. Later she described the attempt as "futile", it did not work and their relationship grew sour because of differing political opinions, (Gaga's dad is a Trump supporter) but they made up and are now on good terms.

Stats wise Gaga broke 2 that Adams didn't have, no previous actress missed BA nominee in lead with having double SAG nomination (lead + ensemble) [Adams didn't have ensemble] and no previous actress missed with a NYFCC win + Globe nomination (Adams didn't have one trifecta), aside from these two details sure at the end it was the same shitty situation for her as well, even worse considering her movie ended up to get tones of nominations including best picture.

 

It happened also to two supporting actresses this year, Gaga wasn't the only one, Ruth Negga (a previous nominee) missed with having a trifecta as well and all the precursors (no cast esemble tho) and Caitriona Balfe same (she didn't have any trifecta but she had the double SAG nod).

Artpop and Joanne. I remember Artpop being talked about in 2012 and Joanne's origins can be traced back to early 2015 when she posted that picture with RedOne.

 

Keep in mind, Gaga isn't someone who sits down and writes an entire album in 6-12 months and releases it as is. She collaborates with a lot of different producers that sometimes don't even make the final cut, and with Joanne she went a whole different direction with it halfway through its development.

ARTPOP was fumbled by the hip injury, it would've come earlier. And the RedOne sessions dont really count, since we are talking about LG7 in a scenario where she doesnt change her mind midway through.

I just can't see that happening though. Like I said, she isn’t someone who writes, records, and releases something in less than a year. She'll probably experiment with different producers and sounds before she lands on one thing.
