Both points are valid and a consequence of the other, let's be honest, part of this fanbase has became kind of lazy since long time, a lot of people rather stay moaning and discuss to the infinite things that happened in the past with pointless rankings or arguing with haters, rather than putting more effort in supporting what she actually does, sure her team (label in first) did several mistakes in all these years, starting from the BTW era, but also a lot of fans have became lazy spending more time in hate-stanning all the time without actually supporting a release and then they're the first to complain if a song-album doesn't go in the way they thought. Of course she has then to rely to the GP and in the case of 'Chromatica' without promo plus the bad-unfortunate timing of the whole release with her stay silent for months, that killed the era, it was too late when the VMAs performance and the 911 video happened.

Whatever genre LG7 is they need to choose the right lead single, her last 2 lead singles have been atrocious choices considering there's way better songs in their respective albums, smells like self-sabotage to me

I really liked the Applause Set Design for the VMAs. Sadly the stage broke and we couldn't have the garden reveal and the hands popping from the floor.

While I don't disagree that SL and HMH aren't necessarily "trendy", they're still the most basic and radio-serving singles she's done in a while  Regardless, her appeal has never been as a standard hitmaker. Ever since the beginning, Gaga and her music have acted somewhat as counterprogramming to the regular pop tarts at the time. She built the image of being an auteur/highbrow popstar at the start of her career and stuff like winning an Oscar have only cemented her image as being at a higher level artistically. Releasing basic gen Z trendy stuff would be at odds with the core of her appeal. The fact that she is different has always been the selling point. We don't want her to feel like late-career Madge struggling to stay cool.
