Okay I've listened! Need it to grow on me… but the production is SUPER cool. Especially in the prechorus it's epic. The "yeah the musics gonna be bring me back from dead" melody is GREAT!!

 

I feel like the "do the dead dance" part could've gone A LOT harder, it sorta feels like in afterthought, which is odd cause her post choruses usually slay like in abra/telephone, but maybe that part will grow on me cause it's kinda silly/campy

It's a soft mid week launch with no playlist support even more so than Abra so I wouldn't expect it to chart at least after 24 hours.

It fits really naturally on mayhem, and it's definitely good enough to be featured on the tracklist. I agree with a lot of you that it's somewhere in the mid/low mid tier, but on an album like mayhem that still means it's really good since that tracklist is so competitive  

 

id say Can't stop the high > dead dance > kill for love in terms of post mayhem release tracks

TDD just further solidifies that Mayhem is her best album, and this is without KFL and CSTH being added yet. It's undeniable at this point.

Gurl the post chrous is the "when you kill me inside", that part you mentioned is more like a bridge.

Oh wow that's huge. I hope abracadabra continues to do well in Halloween, it has potential to be a huge Halloween staple and I think we'll see this year, but for sure next year, if that's the case

agreed, I'll give it that, but still mid overall 

Some thoughts after my first few listens

 

1. I LOVE the song. I'm not a fan of Mayhem's more funky, 80's leaning tracks with the exception of Killah and LoveDrug; but songs like SOAM, DCT, Zombieboy etc don't do it for me for some reason. I think the electronic elements in the verses really scratch that itch in my brain, the chorus is super catchy and her vocals sound soft and thin whereas she normally can sound a bit too loud in belty moments (think "SAW YOUR FACE IN MINE" or "I DIDN'T ASK FOR A FREE RIDE"). It's a solid 8/10 for me.

 

2. I also think she managed to pull off making a song clearly aligned with a kids movie and shamelessly created to promote it ("do the Dead Dance" feels like a plea to TikTok and a direct response to the Bloody Mary trend), yet it sounds good and not cheesy. Songs created to market kids movies/shows so often sound corny or too childish ("Happy," "Can't Stop the Feeling," "Ooh La La"), but TDD sounds digestible and inoffensive enough for a third grader yet Gaga enough for veteran monsters to appreciate. She met the brief PERFECTLY. 

 

3. As a critique, I think the bridge could have been more dynamic or distinct for the song to have really earned the 3:48 length. Probably could have cut the bridge, end on the second chorus, and just give it a little outro instead. 
 

4. God I love this woman so much. I'm so glad she's back in full force.  Bring on the video, the VMAs, and CSTH+KFL on streaming!
