Clearly, there's a marketing plan and hype now that didn't exist before.
They're dropping Easter eggs and building up anticipation that's actually working — the photos of her rehearsing are a clear example of that.

The break between Fly and Wake Up was 10x worse. They had The Getaway right there. I have never heard up until then of an almost double platinum album "underperforming" enough to only get one single.

Metamorphosis should have had more singles to be honest it's sales where still very high when Hilary duff  dropped

I was thinking about which hiatus was more brutal, and I'd actually have to choose the 6 year break after Best Of until Chasing The Sun. We had a string of meh indie movies (besides Greta) plus Gossip Girl, that one TV movie...and ...YA books? The latter 3 endeavors I just couldn't connect with. 

 

Such an uncertain time as a fan but looking back I'm grateful it empowered her in making her own decisions and figuring out what she likes, which ultimately led her back to the creative process of music. 

 

With this 10 year break we at least had more stability with Younger, the brief (but exciting) Lizzie revival hype, then HIMYF which was cute.  

I think I'm most excited for the docu-SERIES, she will really shine in that format. Didn't she do a mini MTV one (Diary?) leading up to the Dignity release? 

 

I also remember when it was speculated she was filming a reality show...which turned out to be the infamous Tinder fiasco

But do you remember she indeed recorded something while in Australia? We even got a short video from that time. I do think it was something planned to come along This Heart.

Yesss! That was really cool to see just a bit of what that would've been. Now that I think about it, I wonder if the backyard acoustic session of Tattoo was also meant to be a part of that, and if any similar sessions were recorded for songs like This Heart, Neighborhood, etc. 

This was the MTV mini docuseries I was thinking of, just a day in the life kinda format. I obviously hope the new docuseries gets bigger in scale but still grounded and intimate, esp. with the eras tour director behind it.

You're probably right. The guitarist was the same from that time. 
And I do think she recorded more backyard sessions!

There's another interview she did where she was very open hearted about her past. I tried to find it on YouTube but I couldn't. It was at a University.

Metamorphosis should've had more singles for sure. I wonder what would've happened if they had released Come Clean in fall 03 and pushed it through winter. Then, Little Voice in spring 04 with a music video and US release. June 2004 they release Anywhere But Here as the final single to promote A Cinderella Story. They could still give OLAS the mv tho. Crash World isn't wasted on the soundtrack.

 

Fly should've been the single for the Raise Your Voice soundtrack instead of a second album. Put Fly, Jericho and SWOM on the soundtrack and off the album.

 

Then they should've saved Crash World as lead single from the second album. Should've been another 13 track album giving 3 songs to the RYV OST and deleting Haters from existence. September was too early but Lindsay released Speak that December to maximize holiday sales so that would've been a bad time too but probably should've been November right before LL. Weird and The Getaway definitely should've been pushed in the first half 06.

 

Most Wanted was pretty much perfectly timed given how lackluster the self titled cycle was. Supergirl should've gotten a real single treatment when it was used for Candies ads and Material Girls in like June/July to hold fans over until Play Woth Fire.

 

Finally, they should've released With Love as a digital download and music video in November to promote the perfume. Radio push could've stayed the same for early 07 but Stranger should've been pushed as a single in April at the latest. There was also no reason for the gap between Stranger and Reach Out. Either RO should've been released around the time Dignity Tour started or they should've pushed a couple more singles (Danger and Outside of You?) and released the reissue at the end of tour in February with Reach Out as a single.

 

Sorry for the essay but this is how I would've maximized each album's potential.

i feel like she still has ptsd from her younger days for being so overworked its probably why we always see her on vacation

I am a Haters hater myself, even when I was a kid I was cringing a bit... I actually thought Mr. James Dean got that angsty message across much better. She really took a big swing with that one 

 

Self titled was so bloated and rushed, I'm curious to hear your retrospective dream tracklist there since it makes sense to just delegate some tracks to the movie OSTs. Honestly there is no album #2 for me without Fly though, so that'd be a tough one to lose. 

I've actually been listening to self-titled more consistently than any of her other albums bar This Heart since her return to music announcement.

It occurred to me earlier that if Hilary is performing with the Jonas Brothers this Sunday, the media press she'll be receiving on Monday will be very substantial...which will be the best and perfect opportunity to announce something.

Also, did anyone notice her last IG post ie the slideshow of her trip? I couldve sworn it never appeared on my feed. I only knew she posted something when I went to her page. And with the dismal no. of likes in comparison to the post right before it, its almost as if the post was hidden/shadowbanned at first lol.
