The Fray - "Songs I'd Rather Not Sing"
This and My Heart Is A Crowded Room are better than anything from their EP last year. Emerald however sucks. I'm just glad they came back with an age appropriate sound instead of trying to appeal to kids like OneRepublic does.

Kesha - 'Animal + Cannibal (15 Year Anniversary)'
Technically an EP is a collection of 3-7 songs with a duration of less than 30 minutes. An album or LP would be a collection of 8+ songs and a duration of over 30 minutes. Cannibal has 9 songs, 8 original + 1 remix, and runs over 30 minutes so it's technically an album. Because of the way it was originally released as a companion album to Animal has a lot of people confused. They do count it as a second album for her RCA contract as well. Sorry but you're technically wrong on all counts.

Kesha - 'Animal + Cannibal (15 Year Anniversary)'
Everyone hoping for their favorite unreleased songs meanwhile I'm just hoping we can get official unedited versions of the censored track. I'm glad that album came out at the end of heavy censorship in music.

Zac Efron - "Get’cha Head in the Game" (Original Demo)
He just sounds like he doesn't have much training. Drew obviously had more vocal training than Zac had at the point. Zac doesn't sound bad but he hadn't figured out how to have personality when he sang here. He obviously did a lot of work for the rest of the films and Hairspray. On a side note; I remember back in the day Simon Cowell wanted to sign Zac to a record deal. Now I wonder if it was Drew or Zac he had heard.

Hilary Duff - "Mature"
I want to hear it with an 2000s brick wall pop radio mix because it sounds like when they remastered metamorphosis for vinyl and give it more separation but it kinda just sounds… off. It really reminds me of Workin It Out, it's just got too much taken off the low end so it sounds like it's coming from an old radio the entire song instead of intentionally. I don't even hate the production, even though there's a little bit too much Matthew in it for me. But, if Hilary loves it then so do I.

Artists that will be replaced by AI?
People saying Britney when she hasn't put out music in almost a decade. AI could imitate her but it will never replace her. It's definitely the faceless DJ feature singers getting replaced; Bebe, Zara.

Hilary Duff - "Mature"
I have a feeling this is going to be more reminiscent of Metamorphosis sonically. She said "pop" not "dance pop" and Metamorphosis is the definition of guitar driven pop. If that's the case I'm hoping this is Little Voice 2.0

Vinyl Talk | Round and round the record goes...
Anyone have any ideas what they've got? My expectations are low considering the Y2K and Halloween drops but Britney and Addison have me a little excited.

Leona Lewis teases announcement
Definitely was. The only reason it didn't seem more random that it is was because it was a holiday show. Honestly, I'm worried she'll be able to pull it off. Her voice has been incredibly weak lately. Her performance on TKCS was difficult to watch. Her vocal degradation is worse than Mariah's, I wonder what happened.

Hilary Duff to begin the new era in less than 24 Hours
Hopefully it's a re recording of this Thanksgiving holiday classic!

Disco Lines & Tinashe - "No Broke Boys"
She signed to Atlantic? How did I miss that??
-
Tate McRae - "Revolving door"
Ok they need to push TFT to radio hard then since RD is dead now.

Damn I thought smile was a fever dream. I remember seeing something about it on a fan site back in 06 and it was supposedly from Dignity. I could never find the song but found Smile by Lily Allen instead and became a fan of her. Glad to know it wasn't made up.

Everyone is falling victim to the "right now" mentality here. Like if she doesn't drop the lead single right now she's going to flop. I get it, we're all starving! Let's remember that the process of making an album takes time. We don't know exactly how long she's been working on it already or how much more she wants to work on it. The deal with Atlantic was only announced in September and I'm sure she didn't have a full album ready when she signed. It also takes a few months to mix, master and manufacture physical copies which they'll definitely want ready for first week sales. Realistically releasing a first single in October when Christmas music is about to take over and the album isn't logically coming until next April/May at the earliest that would be a mistake. Anyone remember Disease? Exactly. Just a few weeks ago we talked about how poor the timing of her single releases were and how long they used to go between. Releasing anything this year would be like releasing Play With Fire 7 months before Dignity. I think it's reasonable to expect the campaign to start while she's filming Pretty Ugly. She could definitely film a music video and all the little TikTok/reels content during that time too. Anyway, I have a feeling everything it's going to be fine. I can tell there's a plan being executed. Been a fan since 03 and haven't felt her be this hungry to do music since the Metamorphosis. Between how much she wants it and having Matthew be her biggest cheerleader helping her and how desperate the fans clearly are she's going to be fine.

Tinashe is coming
Yeah I feel like the trilogy idea isn't happening. Like why wait a year and a half between part 2 and 3? I have a feeling BB/Ang3l era is done but we'll see. I feel like with the dance community showing her and NBB so much love this year she needs to shift gears and make a dance album.

MARINA - 'PRINCESS OF POWER (DELUXE)'
It's still giving double mastectomy post op.

Disco Lines & Tinashe - "No Broke Boys"
She was honestly giving people tour fatigue at one point. I asked my friend to go see her with me and he wasn't interested because he had just saw her a couple months earlier. I get that's how artists make money but you have to let people miss you and let the anticipation grow. Making the market miss her will be good in the future I think.

I agree that Mr. James Dean is by far the superior song! I am also not a fan of I Am, that's maybe the worst thing Dianne Warren ever wrote. I agree self titled felt bloated although I loved how many songs it had when I was a kid. I'm not a fan of how it pulled double duty as her second album and Raise Your Voice soundtrack at all. Fly, Shine, Jericho and SWOM are all borderline c*ristian rock song. Fly fits sonically thanks to the Evanescence lite production but the other 3 are trying too hard to lighten up a pretty dark album. Fly is really the best lead single contender tho, I was letting my love of Crash World cloud that. She didn't write it herself and it's not a well written song but it was always pretty obvious to me that song was about her relationship with Joel for her. A lot of the songs on the album refer to that relationship. DtK is about being a "squeaky clean" teen pop star having to hide the realities of the relationship she's in to protect her public image. It's way deeper than anyone gives it credit for but it was kind of dumbed down and generalized for young teens to relate to more. Dangerous to Know and Cry, the misunderstood masterpieces you are.

Metamorphosis should've had more singles for sure. I wonder what would've happened if they had released Come Clean in fall 03 and pushed it through winter. Then, Little Voice in spring 04 with a music video and US release. June 2004 they release Anywhere But Here as the final single to promote A Cinderella Story. They could still give OLAS the mv tho. Crash World isn't wasted on the soundtrack. Fly should've been the single for the Raise Your Voice soundtrack instead of a second album. Put Fly, Jericho and SWOM on the soundtrack and off the album. Then they should've saved Crash World as lead single from the second album. Should've been another 13 track album giving 3 songs to the RYV OST and deleting Haters from existence. September was too early but Lindsay released Speak that December to maximize holiday sales so that would've been a bad time too but probably should've been November right before LL. Weird and The Getaway definitely should've been pushed in the first half 06. Most Wanted was pretty much perfectly timed given how lackluster the self titled cycle was. Supergirl should've gotten a real single treatment when it was used for Candies ads and Material Girls in like June/July to hold fans over until Play Woth Fire. Finally, they should've released With Love as a digital download and music video in November to promote the perfume. Radio push could've stayed the same for early 07 but Stranger should've been pushed as a single in April at the latest. There was also no reason for the gap between Stranger and Reach Out. Either RO should've been released around the time Dignity Tour started or they should've pushed a couple more singles (Danger and Outside of You?) and released the reissue at the end of tour in February with Reach Out as a single. Sorry for the essay but this is how I would've maximized each album's potential.

Albums that were meant to be huge eras but ended up flopping?
All I Ever Wanted and Stronger both should've been bigger. I see people saying My December but that wasn't ever expected to sell as much as Breakaway by anyone but maybe her label. All I Ever Wanted was supposed to be her big pop return and they got the huge number 1 hit with MLWSWY and then it kind of went downhill from there. They picked the wrong follow up single and then Kelly was publicly bashing the third single and the producer. They should've chose Long Shot and Cry as singles instead. Then, they crippled Stronger by holding it for 6 months because they wanted Q4 sales and adding Mr. **** Ass Bruno Mars rip off as the lead single last minute. They didn't even bother trying to push anything after Stronger hit. Dark Side didn't break Top 40 and they rushed her into a greatest hits instead of a deluxe reissue. She had the material to have 4-5 hits each like Breakaway but there was so much bad blood by that point neither KC or the label wanted to put in the effort for that. She could've been way bigger if Clive hadn't been such a petty *****.

How do you rank Demi's 8 albums?
Probably pretty unpopular opinion but: Here We Go Again Demi Don't Forget Tell Me You Love Me Holy **** Unbroken Confident Dancing With the Devil… The Art of Starting Over Its Not That Deep could be top 3 if the rest of the album is as solid as the singles.

Is Alejandro the moment when Gaga/Madonna fell apart?
By being such a vocal supporter of the LGBT community Gaga definitely did the most for gay rights out of any artist since Madonna herself.

When success doesn't equal resonance: the curious case of Taylor Swift
I'm afraid to get ripped to shreds but here goes. I remember back around Lover era there reports that her back catalogue didn't have the same kind of legacy that most of her peers catalogs did. That because she had kept her catalogue off Spotify for so long that her numbers weren't where they would've been. So apparently the entire re recording thing was to re market her old albums and keep them in the zeitgeist. Basically it was saying that she had crippled her legacy and it was her team's strategy to get it back. If that's true it worked because the re recordings made people go listen to the originals more. It was all orchestrated to make it seem like she had really been building this legacy the whole time meanwhile she was in commercial decline between 2016-2020. So legacy can be faked and bought if your dad is a smart businessman.

Why is this male pop star not smashing...?
It's crazy that for as individualistic as we've become as a society that mainstream music gets more and more homogeneous. This is rinse and repeat of what I hear most males doing and it's boring. Everything sounds the same and it's mostly OK but it's never GREAT. None of these guys are going to make the MPB status because they're trying to fill a spot that's already filled. There's plenty of space for male pop acts but none of the candidates are talented enough and the ones that are (Benson) are too busy trying to fit into what someone else got success doing. The market is currently over saturated with the Harry wannabes. We need to see some originality again.
