The variants for CC didn't make much sense to me, each of the 4 should've had diff covers, but it was just the back pictures that were different.

All that being said, I do hope for the sake of her legacy that she ends on a high with Act III. I'm thinking she will, because the rocky parts of CC are the best parts of the album.

Just a reminder that CC was meant to be Act 1, not Act 2.

 

Otherwise I absolutely agree with what you've posted here.

I cant wait for Act3 to roll out cause the dissertations on the entire trilogy will be epic.

The fact that "the past and the future merge to meet us here" is the tag line of the project individually as well as holistically is the best part about it imho.

 

Both CC and Renaissance are projects that recapture Black genres and give them a new face and identity. On both projects, she heavily borrows from former sounds and songs and in their most obvious moments even directly samples older songs. However, she always manages to give the genres her own twist and fuse them with new sounds.

Both albums feature the same structure:

 

1.) Bombastic opening (Im That Girl + American Requiem)

2.) A couple of "classic" songs that fit the genre and depict the past in the beginning (I.e. Protector which is classic Country or Cozy which is classic House)

3.) A core song that samples a famous song from said genre (BMS which samples the iconic Show Me Love and Jolene)

4.) Iconic features with famous people from the genre, past and future (Skrillex, Diplo and Grace Jones on Rennie; Dolly, Post Malone and Miley on CC)

5.) Modern twist/fusion towards the end of the album depicting the future of those genres (Thique, AUIYM, Pure/Honey on Rennie ; Riverdance, 2H2H and SHB on CC)

6.) Closing statement to the album (Summer Renaissance on Rennie and Amen on CC)

 

Act 3 will certainly feature a similar progression, and if its truly Rock/HipHop, I guarantee its going to become the best album of the 2020s and potentially her magnus Opus cause Bey was MADE for that genre fusion. No one in the industry could make a fusion between Rock and HipHop work BUT Bey. 

Phew, I'm shaking imagining the sound  I wouldnt be mad if she wins 2 AOTY in a row! God knows she deserves!

I kinda disagree with some of the analysis of CC and its performance that is laid out in here. Renaissance was UNIQUE in its concept as a complete start to finish DJ set. It sticks to a single mood and is designed to flow together, even thematically creating the feelings of different feelings during a night out at a discotheque. From the feeling yourself and your crew beginning, being confident and comfortable in your skin no matter who you are, owning your uniqueness and imperfections. To being ready to go all out and ready to fall in love, to not letting life's stresses (anger, job, stresses) break your spirit and hold you back. To expressing and feeling in love, including slowing down a bit after an explosive opening to slow jam on the floor. And so on all the way to the banger disco end for the night. It is a very tight experience which lends to more of the album being played. 

 

However, in normal terms (which excludes fans playing it top to bottom and semi-casuals also realising it is a one set album), the album benefitted massively from an organic smash in Cuff it (and a remix) and an incredible tour - post covid (people were ready to have fun and forget worries).

 

CC is different conceptually and denser and more complete in different ways. Like ST, it covers the different grounds and emotions of B and her life. That as a superstar, a mother, a wife, an artist out to break boundaries, redefine genre's and push herself forward artistically, and make a political statement that she feels strongly. 

 

The problem with CC and it's experience has been that it did not get an organic second hit like Cuff it and secondly that the album is too long with its "hits" on the latter half. 

 

This second point matters a LOT. I want to use Kendrick and GNX as an example. Like Kendrick, Bey is an artist a lot of people take very seriously and people check them out when something is dropped. However, out of this 'casual' group checking them out, a huge chunk does not sit through the entire project. Most people are not serious music album consumers. People need the ear-worms and hits within the first 4-5 songs, and those then usually become hits, breathing a new life into the project - which is always exciting for us fans (and we were robbed of that experience). Luther ft SZA being song 3 meant that a majority reached the song and it helped it in becoming a hit. Most of the online chatter and 'controversial' lines were being taken from the opening track, etc. While the stand outs on the second half made less noise. Take the GP friendly more B like hits on CC and they are late on the project. Levi's, Tyrant, Ya Ya, even Riverdance (that serves Ren), SHB are too late for the GP to reach. Many listeners didn't even clock that vibes king and streaming smasha Posty was on the project. SZA, the female vibes and streaming darling was front and center. 

 

On top of that we didn't have B doing much to give us content or highlight the music. This has led to the album era not having much of a life in it. Musically, vocally, lyrically, artistically, CC is some of B's best work. And while it is a little bloated and could do with better sequencing and a stronger execution of the radio channel concept, I hate to see how some disregard it as Conman Carter (yes jokes) and suggest it is some drastically inferior project compared to Ren. It isn't and is an incredible follow up to Renaissance.

But I agree with you! It also goes with my analysis that CC and Rennia are more alike than not in so many ways (structurally speaking). Its just one focusses on Dance/House and the emotions in that genre (freedom, sensuality, sex, ego, etc) the other on Country (storytelling, love, family, self journey, etc).

 

If that is anything to go by, Act 3, which very well could be Rock/HipHop, will focus on topics such as anger, social commentary, sex, fun, chaos, storytelling (in HipHop).

Im not joking when I say this could very well be her Magnum Opus

It potentially being around rock and other genres (funk, etc.) might give us some of B's absolute best work, cuz like you said, the rock parts of CC were truly the highlights. I am just eagerly waiting for her to blend sounds again. We are blessed (despite all the **** she puts us through)

And not just that:

Act3 is her freshest project in the sense it was recorded most recently (probably around 2021/22) + its the closing chapter, so Im confident Bey is aware shes gonna want to end the trilogy on a BANG indeed! Especially since its likely going to be her last album for quite some time. I really believe Act3 will blow us entirely away the more I think about, and im not just saying that like that. The more I think about it and what that album represents, im sure its going to anihilate her own discography.

Talking about a BANG. While we like to dissect and create a 100 theories out anything and nothing, from cosmic cycles to font colors, I feel we have very blatantly missed the biggest and most obvious hint B has given... the cartoon/comicboook BANG. 

 

We saw with the pistol gun and we have seen it repeatedly in the few visuals she has given us. But ending the Netflix show with such a giant and epic banner, it HAS to mean something. I just am not sure how we dig into it

Eggzachly. People were dragging Reneigh for having corny slang lyrics with no real meaning. Cowboy Caca is the best lyrical album of her career. The vocals are way better. It knocked all the criticisms of renaissance out of the park. 

Disappear is a song that deserves to go viral. It should be one of her biggest ballads.
