I'm annoyed at the pandemic for many reasons, but one of the main things is that it prevented us from seeing what (if anything) she had up her sleeve to promote The Gift. 

 

A one-off show or limited run of shows in Africa, solely performing the album with guest appearances from the features would have been...chef's kiss. Her Whitney Live From SA moment. 

 

The overall OTRII show/era was so uninspired (compared to her usual ish), so I was annoyed she used her "Africa moment" for that.

 

Maybe another time.

I've also been thinking a lot about what Pharrell said about having something special coming with her.

 

Interestingly, his name was tied to the Mufasa soundtrack. Press release and all. Yet it's out and he has no credits. It's also mysteriously only 7 tracks, which is like half an album. 

 

Delulu hot take is that a surprise "EP" or collection of tacks that "completes" the existing album could drop with the film on Friday. Surely I'm not alone in remembering semi-recent murmurs about Bey doing more Afro music?

 

Logic has me thinking the Pharrell thing simply fell through and she would never convolute the wrap up of the yeehaw era.

I'm surprised Baby Boy is only 2X Platinum. Felt huge and had such longevity in radio at the time. I would never expect Sorry or BTINH out certing it 

The peaks aren't even the most impressive feats here. 10 songs from Self-titled are gold or higher, 11 out of 12 songs from Lemonade and 15/16 from Renaissance. She's not performing on streaming as lukewarm as some Spotify stats may suggest.

That's what I be saying. People listen to her projects more as a whole than some other pop girls. It's not just singles
