Speaking of promotion, II MOST WANTED is down to #47 on Today's Top Hits, which makes no sense, and was NOT sent to radio, despite being the best performing song on the album outside of Texas and being top 30 on pop radio on it's own.  In the streaming era it's customary to push a second single out during release week because that momentum is unparalleled, and if a song is already playing well on it's own, waiting to seize on that only hinders the performance, people lose interest, radio loses interest.  Why invest money into these billboards and posters instead of actually pushing your music to more ears?  It just seems counterintuitive to me.  The best forms of music promotion are playlists, performances, music videos, a sense of relateability with the general public to help them connect to a song by engaging fans in some capacity, not weird Billboards or posters that people don't pay attention to.

Ugh.

I really don't like to moan, especially because a) the album is great, b) we don't know what could be around the corner, and c) it's just tiresome...

But seeming ball-drops like this are so annoying. For the simple fact that it's unneccessary.

I don't even care for the Miley collab like that, but on paper it makes total sense for Columbia to go all-out making it a thing as both ladies are on the label. It's a circular win. And an easy one at that.

It's not lost on me that it has already cost them $$$$ to push it as the focus track upon the album's launch, so why not ride it til the wheels fall off rather than quite literally leaving it FOR the wheels to fall off.

The only angle that would make sense is if there's a "single version" of one of the existing songs that's about to be serviced. Call me delulu, but like a "Bodyguard ft x artist". Beyond that, there's no logical reason to seemingly abandon a track they've already pumped $$$$ into.

I'm a huge advocate for Bey's regal positioning and approach to promo NOT needing to be like the Taylor's and other cookie-cutter girls. I actively like that she "put in the work" in the first half of her career to reach a time like this when she can SOMEWHAT sit back and let the magic happen. There's an effortless "cool" attached to not being "seen" to chase commercial moments too.

THAT SAID...

It's so annoying to see something as simple as working a track at radio + streaming messed up when it literally requires nothing from Bey herself. It's objectively silly, doesn't benefit her regality in any way, and arguably makes it harder for her the next time she actually does want to "play the game". Automated success comes from feeding the machine regularly. Coming off the success of Texas, the Miley song doing well helps the next thing which helps the next thing. I don't get what they don't get about this.

On a non-moany note, do we still think a "live" something is on the cards?

April is speeding ahead, making for an even more limited time to announce a tour (for example).

We know she's a stadium-only girl and that mandates a summer run.

In short, it feels like she'd be cutting it a bit fine unless there's an announcement semi-imminently.

I am CACKLING… and upset that Bey has gone radio silent since releasing her BIGGEST album in nearly a decade!! :biblionny:

Well it is still impactful though

-she is the first black woman to go #1 on the Country chart

- she managed to have put the spotlight on those upcoming black country artists and gave them their first Hot 100 entry.

- she gave Linda Martell her first ever Hot 100 entry, that's huge.

Well thats kinda my point, isn't it? She had an incredible first week, but then?

Can it really be considered an impactful release if people abandon the entire project in a matter of a month or 2.months?

And I really dont wanna be Debbie Downer here, but seeing how Parkwood and Bey fail to maintain interest already + them likely not doing anything anymore other than hoping for a lucky TikTok moment out of the blue + Taylor's upcoming release + Billies release... It just paints a very forgotten era once April is done

Remains at #1 in Ireland for a second week.

This still gets me, and I wonder if it's partially a reflection of Beyonce's feelings as well because I'm sure they discussed it together as they're really close.  It's doubtful that Tina felt strongly about it enough to post about it without ever mentioning it and discussing it with Beyonce.  Makes me wonder if she thinks the promotion lies outside of her, which is a strange thought considering she owns her own music/production company and has to know how important promoting your work is.  From our perspective, she hardly has done any promotion herself, whatsoever, and hasn't in more than a decade, it was just a strange talking point IMO.  Like girl, you don't even promote your own work :rip:

Well, she had to be photoshopped into the cast photo for TLK so it's a two way street. You can't tell me her costars didn't feel a certain kinda way when they had to pose and were told the empty spot is where Bey would be inserted. I don't think that's a good look.

I feel like Disney pushed BIK pretty well tbh, particularly for a pandemic movie. I think the title turned people off (because people are stupid as ****) and the music had already come and gone so no one really cared. As much as we love Bey and people with taste recognize her talent, to most of the world she's just another pop star like the rest of them. They aren't going to drop everything, download what at the time was a fairly new streaming app, and watch a movie with music that was a year old.

I forgot about this :deadbanana2: She even had the Met Gala hair, they probably just used her head and conjured up some Disney magic from the neck down :deadbanana2:

I am puzzled why they are trying to extend Texas' reign. That song has enough legs and no more help is needed. She should have pushed either Jolene or Most Wanted. :deadbanana2:

Using Black Is King as a title wouldn't be an issue for a Beyoncé project, but for one destined for Disney's app? It's a bit abrasive.

  1. Religious families avoided the film thinking it's mocking the phrase "Christ Is King" or Beyoncé is portraying herself as someone on the level of Christ.
  2. Non-blacks thought the title was heavy-handed and promoted Black supremacy.
  3. The project attracted misogynistic Hoteps and FBAs, thinking Beyoncé is catering to them, which put off a lot of Black people especially women.

This is all in addition to the controversy she's facing from Africans saying she's exoticizing the continent and has backwards views of their culture.

It's a mess all around.

By the way, does anyone know why they updated these songs to credit Bey as a vocalist? Does this confirm that she provided background vocals to them?

The anger. :skull: Girl, it's been 11 years of this. We should be used to the abuse by now.

I can now see why she started the last tour in Stockholm.

It's the Stockholm syndrome she inflicts on us every day, y'all.

Frankly, Ireland deserves the world. Clearly the fact that she went to Dubai means she's not against live performances outside of tour. She should do a promotional concert In Ireland and the UK. They deserve it so much. She could go back to do something for the fans, it's not like she will get no pay from it.

Despite the lack of activity for Rennie, at least that album kept me on a chokehold. How am I already bored 2 weeks into the album? Maybe I played it tew much and got burnt out.

There have been two album charts announced so far this week:

Australia: #1 for 2nd week

New Zealand: #3 (one new release ahead)

The UK chart will be announced today, where Bey will either be #2 or #3, with one or two new releases ahead of it.

To say it's "tumbling down literally all major charts in week 2" is very much not true. :rip:

You know very well what that user meant. The album is literally collapsing on streaming. Very soon Renaissance will be winning the daily comparisons (and truthfully it is already winning it when accounting for the track number difference). 19M on Day 13 when Day 1 was 76M is awful no matter how you slice it.

ALIEN SUPERSTAR and CUFF IT are now doing more raw streams than what any non-IIMW (which reminder is the playlisted song while the aforementioned 2 weren't) track are on the same day.

Saying this album is leaving less of a mark than Renaissance isn't a reach at all.

I think it's just as I thought it would be when I first heard it. It's an album meant to be experienced start to finish, like an acclaimed blockbuster film. However I am not watching Django 100+ times, I have to be in a certain mood for it whereas Rennie is THE album for every day, every night, every casual hour. Rennie was an album meant to be experienced start to finish too though, that album was laced with crack:eli:
