A lot of you won't like this, but...

 

16 CARRIAGES is from the same musical mind as BE ALIVE and uses the same core approach to storytelling through the music itself.

 

 

I admit it does it far, far better, but it has the same ideology.... painting emotions with the musical choices, rather than making choices for the sake of it being a song construction we're family with.

 

The relentlessness of the drum+guitar hits, the relentless of the melody...it all so well reflects her feelings of ever-forward movement but in her career and caravans, and makes her feel small even as she's on the road to being something huge.

 

Melodically, it's one of the most interesting songs of her career, and it's precisely because of how minimal its melodic variation is. Beyoncé needs to literally be studied because I'm sure there is so much I'm missing being not familiar with music theory at all, but it's clear she's genius at getting her voice to do things that the music itself challenges her to do, like here adding so much texture to so much repeated melodies, or like riding the beat so hard in Get Me Bodied you don't even notice the beat is so damn sparse and there's no chords whatsoever. Even Tambourine (same producer, same sound, same time) added chords.

 

Anyway. It's really a gem of her discography.

I agree with your Be Alive comparison, however Be alive never went anywhere, this has a far more satisfying climax and bridge.

how iconic would it be if beyoncé decided she didn't have to stop at three acts and just kept doing new genres....

Be Alive is easily one of her worst songs

and even just her returning to R&B as genre thinking of it as an assignment and with the knowledge she's equipped with and then making R&B almost like a student again...

Sometimes these website can gaslight you into forgetting how successful Bey is. I looked at AM charts and she's still 2 and 3 globally and in the US.

I stumbled on that rats' nest after Whitney's death, Whitney and Bey had the two biggest threads there, I have never online read more vile and inhumane comments about Whitney in my whole life. Beyoncé's threads were just as vile. 

Then Kanye got with Kim and comments were about how they wish and would laugh if their kids came out looking black... from black women. A vile place. I never stepped foot there after going through a couple pages of the main Whitney's thread. 

 

It has gotten worse if you can believe it. Bey has trended over there every other day for something negative. The comments get #worserandworser.

Do you think Gospel will find it's way on to this newest project? To me it makes a bunch of sense considering early Gospel found its way into quite a few country musicians repertoire
