Nobody said the charts was better nowadays, please read. What was said is forgettable quick hits have always been around.

 

Nothing about the comment was ageist. You are factually aging and getting out of touch with pop culture once you start thinking the concept of many forgettable hits randomly came about the past few years.

The concept of "viral hits" weren't possible before during the physical era. That's what i meant with my first comment.

 

There's always been hits that don't have any quality but sell (like Barbie Girl during the physical era or the brazilian Assim Você Me Mata during the digital era) but it was a different time where things weren't as quick and immediate as now with streaming. That's all.

it used to be we’d get that one or two gimmicky fad hits a year but now it’s almost every month.

but it’s what the gp Of teenage and young adult age group apparently wants but you made a valid point.

He’s not wrong. Every generation old people say music used to be better. But this is always false. You try to act smug and say this time is different but the only difference is more accurate tracking of what people are actually listening to and buying. The fact that people are complaining about the popularity of songs on the charts is not different. People listen to what they listen to. Deal with it.
 

The charts are better now days because they are a better reflection of what they are supposed to measure....popularity.
