i'm doing research for an article i'm writing on the politics of disco in the late 70s and early 80s and, chile, the stuff that came out after the racist, homophobic, misogynist so-called disco demolition event is way better than most of the tripe that some white folks were regurgitating during the 77-79 era. real black music may have been relegated to the charts ghetto, but musicians were coming up with some real gems.

How far are we going with post-disco? Up until LTMP/ITG and the arrival of freelance? Is Italo-disco considered as well?

for now, i'm thinking of the standard definition of 1979-1986, which would definitely include some italo stuff as well (especially coz change's glow of love/miracles has remained so fresh--even if we accept the fact that they were pretty much just a chic clone).

also, i'm thinking primarily of the more "obscure" stuff like taana, sinnamon, peech boys, indeep and so on. stuff that would educate the children. not the mainstream commodores or kool & the gang stuff.

I was thinking about the 2008 girl group rate that Ace mentioned a few weeks back, and while I think that particular year wouldn't be a huge draw (who wants to rate GA's second worst album?), it did get me thinking about girl group rates again. A singles showdown maybe? GA vs Sugabaes vs PCD vs... idk, are there any other relevant '00s groups? Danity Kane have about 3 singles to their name. Maybe we could go global and include Perfume idk.

Would this be girl groups of the 21st Century, or just girl groups of the Aughts?

My initial thought was just the aughts, but feel free to drive that idea wherever you like.
