The issue back then wasn't what the album was supposed to sound like primarily. It was the fact that Tinashe was failing to get hit songs for the album to anchor on. Joyride was basically being held hostage until Tinashe got a hit but RCA wouldn't properly promote her. It was really a catch 22. Joyride was Tinashe under extreme compromise. Flame was released as a single cause it got her a sponsorship with Pepsi and a lot of promo slots. Also at the time, another issue was Tinashe being put in a box cause she was too pop for R&B and vice versa. They just didn't know what to do with her. A fully pop album would risk alienating the fanbase she already had with her previous 6 releases.

What are the most memorable moments from the Joyride era for you guys? Mine would be when Tinashe was promoting Flame using a fire truck and her performing with half naked firemen in the middle of winter on the side of the street for less than 30 people. Tinashe was going THROUGH IT!!

Tinashe - Joyride Tinashe's 3rd album and 7th overall project. The album that was a turning point for Tinashe's career. Under immense pressure from her label, the era was plagued with constant pushbacks, mismanagement from her label, and poor support for her music among others. First off is the single "Player" with a Collab with CB (it was really the label, it wasn't me!) next was summer ready for "SuperLove" (which has aged gracefully IMO) and the infamous "Flames" where Tinashe said "I cried for two days when they told me I had to put that song out as a single." She was committed to get the album out and after a slew of singles, Joyride was released! The album symbolizes Tinashe's tenacity and conviction for her music. And after a failed romance with Ben Simmons and scraping the album Nashe with the tracks "Like I Used To" and "Throw A Fit" Tinashe decided it was time to move on from RCA. I'm glad people are talking about these tracks since being left off the album makes them easier to forget they are still part of Tinashe's catalog.

Tinashe - Nightride Tinashe's 2nd album and 6th overall project. During a time of constant pushback from her label, Tinashe decided to take the initiative. That included leaking tracks like Party Favors on a random Tuesday. Another Track that she leaked was Energy feat. Juicy J to tide fans while waiting for the original "Joyride". Nightride was release as a mixtape since RCA did not want to promote the album but has since been acknowledged as her 2nd album. For many, this is considered Tinashe best work and for solid reason. Tracks like Sacrifices and Ride Of Your Life were released before this type of sound would fully hit the mainstream consciousness. The album also has the dance heavy Company and hauntingly beautiful Ghetto Boy in its tracklist. The album continues to be a highlight in Tinashe's ever expanding catalog. I love how you got into Tinashe during the period of time where we Sweetees were in the trenches. The constant pushbacks, the generic songs, the forced collabs. We were going through IT! I think Joyride is a great starting point for people curious about Tinashe cause there's nowhere else to go but up. Kinda like "well if you liked that, wait till you get a taste of ___"
