I kinda think both things are true. As a woman myself, I have so many girlfriends that despite being accomplished, successful, smart, etc in their own right still really see themselves as the rib to a man. They still want a provider that they can "turn their brains off around" and be submissive helpmates to. Patriarchal bs if you ask me but I swear most of my friends think I'm radical simply for thinking that I don't have to have a man. If I happen to find one that fits my needs and wants then cool but I don't need one to survive.
