We're taking it back to the late 2000s. These 2 non-black R&B forces were getting a ton of buzz. Colby even featured on a Lady Gaga song. Not sure why he couldn't break out like her. Which do you prefer?

Jay Sean for me, his early albums are so good! I've been meaning to make a thread about him but I forgot. Can't believe he ended up being a one hit wonder in the US.

    Do You Remember reached #10 on the Hot 100 though is somewhat forgotten.

    huh ryan2 didn't feel that way to me! idk if it was just Hot 99.5 (I grew up in the DMV) but I feel like 2012 (It Ain't the End) got a lotttt of airplay and made him into a non-one hit wonder. I feel like he was a main pop boy for a minute there!

    OT: Jay all the way clap3 plus he was sexy af too!

    this, otoh, I feel like is because Colby didn't instantly have an image and a vibe wholly unique to him at that exact moment. 2008-2011 was a time when to become huge you sorta had to have something really sui generis to have an audience want to cling onto you and really want to start following you. Gaga had the lightning bolt and the blonde hair and some throwback vibes about her that made her seem kinda like a Warhol superstar. she flawlessly blended her weirdness with a futurism (dare I say a future nostalgia? lol) that made her stand out from everyone else in that era giraffe did Colby even have an album track as strong as Poker Face? genuinely asking lol. I do love What You Got, dgmw
