Jay-Z is facing criticism from some consumers after partnering with Target for an exclusive "Reasonable Doubt" anniversary release.

The blog also pointed to Carter's controversial decision to partner with the NFL back in 2019 while activists were calling for a boycott over the league's firing of former quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who took a knee on the field in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Likewise, cultural commentator and digital creator Imani B. accused the rap mogul of hurting the Black community's effort to stand up against organizations that act against their collective interests.

Jay Z condemned Kaepernick and made it seem like it wasn't necessary to boycott the NFL. Is this the connection you are talking about?

This is a man who said the word "capitalist" is a slur comparable to the N word. He will throw his morals out the window for a dollar.

Jay's got some bizarre stans on here that emerged during the casino debacle with no arguments to speak of so we'll see how this thread goes. Jay's attempt to call criticism of that as racist bombed instantly with Black Twitter as well so we'll see. As for Bey's "complicity" mentioned in the OP here (other than that Manifest Destiny outfit still on her website) I acknowledged a while ago that at least a fourth of the Hive on this board thought she should've divorced him years ago so I'm not touching that either.

The elephant in the room here with retail is that with all demos, even after this objectively successful boycott, is that Walmart is still seen as trashier than Target. If people want to present Walmart as a better alternative they've been protested by all sorts of black groups for decades now so that won't do much good either. Amazon doesn't have brick and mortar so for the level of distribution of what he wanted that was possible that wasn't just online this is what he went with.

That's the business perspective - we all know wealth has insulated Jay from any sense of solidarity with black folks still experiencing blocks from advancement (among other things) based on the color of their skin that he keeps rapping about but folks acting like he's still capable of change after Kaepernick are tired. Enough. Nothing's changing.

Say what you want about Jay-Z, but he is LITERALLY the only reason we've had Latin, R&B, and Hip Hop artists and NOT corny, washed-up, racist country artists performing for The Superbowl Halftime Show in Trump's America, and that matters, seeing as it's the most-watched television event of the year in the US.

You're talking about the man that shut down Shakira's team when they asked for her own Super Bowl halftime and you're trying to make an argument about racial equity? It's a joke.

The NFL knows they wouldn't have reached into urban markets which make up the majority of their advertising dollars if they were just to go with a Morgan Wallen type for years on end. It doesn't take a brain scientist to figure that out.

If you bothered looking into any of the articles or documentaries around the Colin Kaepernick incident Jay doesn't hold and still doesn't hold nearly as much sway as you think he does.
