Advice on horrible situation at work

Featured Replies

I work for a major company. I've been with the company for three years, and have never had any Issues with people, or my job. A person came Into my friend group, from my best friend. She started off really nice, and was fun to hang out with every now and then. But she then made my friends start bullying me lightly. She would constantly bring me down during our days out, calling me stupid or making fun of me. Saying I didn't want her to hang out with us constantly. After the bullying, I would make jokes back to her because I wanted to fight back lightly. She'd act like a victim saying I hated her and that I was a dick even tho she'd call me stupid or make fun of me and I would laugh It off, but It was never as mean as her comments, and i made It known they were jokes. I never called her stupid or made fun of her IN that way. I told my friends to stop and they soon did. But me and my best friend were gonna see a movie, and my friend Invited her along. I brought my other friends from work, and the bullying started up again. I stayed away from her the rest of the night to talk with my friends who actually treated me with respect, and she started crying In front of everyone. She told me I made her feel left out, and I was an awful person and shouldn't have Invited my friends because IT it makes her feel uncomfortable with people she doesn't know. After that, she then started to spread rumors about me at work. Would falsely report me to try to get me In trouble, and show private texts to people. She also accused me of lying about my abusive ex. I told her to stop several times, and tried to fix things before the ex comment but she wouldn't. It got to the point where I went to my managers, and had them start an HR investigation as It affected my ability to work. She then got her friends to falsely report me, and It continued to get worse with my managers doing nothing. I then fumed to one of my "best friends" and called her a nasty B after a really bad day that broke me and she then showed the girl who then reported that to HR. They gave me a write up for that comment, even tho It was private and I am In shock. I feel disgusting because I've been employee of the month, and worked my butt off for years to feel as If they've done nothing to help me. I don't know what punishment she got, but I don't know If I should keep working there. Advice would be appreciated

If you have evidence of her lying, sue her. This **** is real and it's affecting you psychologically and profesionally, so you either do something about it or leave

She's had six HR cases against her with the company. She's done this to other people, but I just find It crazy the resolution I received.

coworkers are not your friends, stop communicating with these people outside of work.

I've learned the hard way. I'm doing that now

Stop doing social things with her and only interact with her if you absolutely have to, keep everything in writing and always be professional.

How tf does she have friends? I know a person like that and practically everyone in my class used to avoid her

The disloyalty these so called "friends" of yours continue to demonstrate tells you everything you need to know about these people. If I were you, say you regret there have been misunderstandings in the past & so, in order to maintain professionalism at work & avoid any hurt feelings, you won't be interacting in a social/personal way going forward. They can't rly argue with that. The culture at your work sounds v toxic

Report her to HR and threaten to sue. They may terminate her if they don't want to deal with all the drama that may ensue. Cut all your friends off as well.

HR ended the investigation with what they did to me, and then I don't know her punishment. But regardless there was enough evidence against her

Mistakes you made ( Iam NOT victim blaming but I've been in similar situations and I HATE seeing others in that situation too) :

  1. Having a big group of "friends"

  2. Inviting people from work

  3. Being around her another day after she'd shown her true colours to you

  4. Being around the group "friends" that had ALSO participated in bullying you.

  5. PEOPLE FROM WORK ARE YOUR ENEMY AND NOT YOUR FRIENDS. Your boss is NOT your friend.... and neither is ANYONE at work. In fact , everyone at work wants the other to fall so they can replace them. You're NOT supposed to tell them your secrets. Not supposed to involve them outside of anything professional. Basically we are all there for the same reason: To get MONEY.

  6. The word "professional" means we put on an act at work so that we continue to get paid.

Take the very proffessional route now. She's clearly out to get you so i'd immediately cut her off and entirely stay away from the other " friends". Keep it simple, show up and chat and laugh in the most fake way possible and then vanish once you get in your car and do not pick up any phone call or text. Whatever happens next, you report. Stay calm and stay sane and safe. You're dealing with a narcissistic psychopath in their perfect habitat. Continue to work without showing signs that you're deeply affected or nervou as hiccups happen all the time. . Act act act. Lie lie lie. Dont tell a single truth at work. We're all a bunch of actors at work. It may sound dramatic but thats just how it is.

Hiccups like this happen more than you'd know. We just need to learn from them, we then assess what we did wrong and move on. There's a chance for recovery and coming back from that btw, so it isn't the end of the world. Especially since you're a good person and only were protecting yourself ( i assume?). Do the right and professional thing and let karma , and god deal with the rest. Nothing goes unpunished to god and karma. Those who hurt will be hurt and punished. Thats the beauty of karma.

You don't make friends at work, baby. You started out wrong. Cut ties with all of them. Be friendly, but don't be friends.

I have seen many people, including close friends, family, and coworkers, lose their jobs because friendships went wrong at the workplace.

You can find friends elsewhere, or accept the risk that your coworkers, now turned friends, might act inappropriately at work.

I used to work with someone who used to bait us into giving our honest opinions as to why she's ugly or single who later got fired. We went out to celebrate her firing by going out for drinks.

Then another girl got punched by her ex after he poured Red Bull on her at work and we all felt sorry for her. Then she would do the minimal at work, be homophobic to me and be super toxic. A bunch of us reported her and she failed her probation. She wrote a long-ass message in our Whatsapp group thanking every co-worker except for myself and two others, even though a bunch of the people she thanked reported her.

Moral: Don't think everyone at work is your friend, they're not. If you end up being friends and staying friends with 1-2 people from work, then that's a bonus.

Respect yourself. I'd rather be lonely and have a small group of a friends than spend my time with toxic 'friends' who never have you back and stand up for you.

I'm guessing you and your co-workers are all under the age of 25?

dont mix your socials with work. come in and collect your coins that's it.
