Good Christian Morning from the westside of Hell.

I was overseeing the release of Kukai onto this forum once again, when I began to wonder, where is the problematic fave representation?

Sometime a little scandal is good for the soul, and a safe space for celebrating our favorite problem children is just ATRL needs.

Where has the LIZY2K, Azealia, Caroline Polcheck, Kim Petras, the 1975, The Weeknd, Poppy, Ayesha Erotica love gone?

I believe that the Holy trinity would agree

ffffffffff so unserious

she posted a Kanye West song on instagram years ago and said it felt relatable while quoting some of its lyrics that contained the n-word

she's been playfully dubbed racist queen since then

you left out the best part of kelela coming after her on the gram in between PS5 giveaways

I think Kim has self-redeemed, and I would still listen to Ayesha

the rest of these people, however, are (variably) spawns of Satan chick1

The 1975. Sorry, they're kinda generational.

Liz and Azealia are the worst here by far. I feel like Caroline is nowhere near their level and everyone ignores her apology (which was really heartfelt), although nobody has to but you know. In the grand scheme of things, I think she's made up since then.

is that a joke cause it was so bad that it's offensive? or was it genuinely offensive and cancellable? i didn't watch

I so wish she wasn't a right wing, dumb woman and TERF

I still can't bring myself to go back to her, but Overpowered and Roisin Machine are so good. What a betrayal to the community that uplifted her for so long.

I can't really let go of her; at most, I've developed anger, disgust, and resentment towards her face and persona, especially after she said "you don't have good negotiators" to the trans community—the most fascist and malevolent thing a pop diva has ever said. This demonstrates how anti-charismatic and cold she is; she used queer money only to attack it later.

People trying to hold Caroline's feet to the fire for some crap from 7 years ago is so annoying. We know she isn't racist so what is this actually about? Letting singers know that we, the listening public, call the shots & control popularity by opting in & out of engaging with your stuff? It feels highly malevolent. What harm are we undoing or preventing in continuing to lash her for quoting a song? I love The 1975 but even I would admit Matty's said some **** I can fathom not being able to get past. Caroline made one MISTAKE, you'd have to have an extremely negative & paranoid worldview to seriously believe otherwise. She's shown the world her heart before & after that lapse of judgment & she is a kind person! I'll never be ashamed I have the capacity to forgive or be understanding of ONE mistake

listening to gwen rn, i do kinda feel like people who are just a bit of an assh*le are ok to me, otherwise we'll have to ditch lana and no one is going to wear that

aside from, say, where kanye has ended up or something like that i don't think that music has to be some sort of purity test

I don't think black listeners have to forgive Caroline, and I don't think those people would be okay with listening to Matty either. I think white artists honestly just need to accept that once they say something anti-black, a lot of black listeners are never going to **** with them, even if they are repentant, and that's entirely within their rights. There are always going to be people who aren't willing to look past the fact that she typed out the n-word, looked at it, and posted it to her IG story without a care in the world. I thought her apology was meaningful, and she's shown good character since then, but I think for some listeners - especially black listeners, that would not be enough, and that's understandable.

I don't have anything against Caroline personally, although I really hate how music fans constantly bring her up in relation to Kelela. They were acquaintances, she said the n-word, and Kelela called her out - they're not enemies or rivals, and musically they're not very similar, so I don't know why Kelela constantly needs to be brought up in relation to Caroline for calling out antiblackness.

Love how thoughtful this response is. I think what disturbs me is what you're describing in the later half of your comment, the way that fans continue to push an association between the two women as if hurt feelings are funny. 1 took great, deep offence to something (understandably), the other made a grave error they deeply regret that marred her character: none of this should be seen as funny or entertaining! Even if ppl have a personal beef with Caro, they can grind that axe & let Kelela move on but it's not about combatting racism for many of these ppl, it's just about snarky in-jokes & glib putdowns at the expense of those personally involved who have **** to lose. I'm sure Kelela is beyond ready to move on atp
